Food Program Supervisor
Definition and Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Director – Children’s Programs, the Food Program Supervisor is responsible for nutrition education and food service, including nutrition education for children, staff, and parents and compliance with all aspects of the Child Care Food Program (CCFP) contract.
Additionally, all ASI employees are responsible for upholding the core values of the organization including but not limited to exhibiting professional behavior, acting as a role model to others, displaying a positive and cooperative attitude, communicating effectively, developing expert knowledge in area of specialization, and working together as a team.
Education Requirements and Qualifying Experiences
Educational/License/Credential Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Associates degree preferred.
- Current American Red Cross Certification in the following: infant/toddler/children’s CPR and First Aid.
- Fifteen (15) hours of Health and Safety Training.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years experience in nutritional meal planning, meal preparation, food purchasing and record keeping, preferably in an institutional food service management position with a federally funded food program that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Working knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- General knowledge of office methods, equipment, procedures, and practices.
- Knowledge of Windows-based computer systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others on diverse teams.
- Knowledge of the nutritional requirements for children under the age of 5 years.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of financial record-keeping methods, procedures and practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervise food program student staff and Food Science and Nutrition student volunteers.
- Facilitate meetings, conduct performance evaluations, establish goals, and monitor day-to-day operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Nutrition Management
- Develop with staff a nutritious menu that meets all Federal Child Care Food Program (CCFP) and Center nutritional standards.
- Oversee preparation of food. Prepare food as necessary.
- Provide food program orientation for all new regular staff upon hire. Provide annual training required by the CCFP for all food program staff.
- Assure that nutrition and meal preparation are integrated into the curriculum for the children in conjunction with teaching staff.
- Meet with teachers and/or parents regarding children’s nutritional needs and special diets as needed.
- Provide nutritional educational information and menus for parents in a monthly newsletter.
- Supervise the routine cleaning, maintenance, and replacement of all food program related equipment.
- Maintain itemized records of all related expenses for the food program (CCFP) and process necessary paperwork for continued reimbursement.
- Work in conjunction with teaching staff to coordinate the children’s garden and related food preparation experiences for the children.
Assessment
- Develop and execute assessment of programs and/or services for areas of responsibility including but not limited to setting and implementing goals, evaluating outcomes and ongoing enhancement.
- Participate in the overall ASI assessment planning and goal setting.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent ASI on committees as appropriate.
- Ensure continuous professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Background Check
This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7 year County Criminal Search in each county and/or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree). Credit Reports, Motor Vehicle Record Check and Professional License Verification may also be required based upon the essential functions of the position.
