We have an wonderful opportunity for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with prior long-term healthcare experience. The main function of the CNA is to perform basic nursing care and simple technical nursing services under the direction of a licensed nurse. In this position, it is important for our CNAs to be compassionate as well as team players.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Complies with state, federal and all other applicable health care standards (i.e. infection control, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Promptly answers residents’ call signals
  • Provides for activities of daily living: 
    • Assists with meals and feeds patients
    • Ambulates, turns, and positions patients to prevent bedsores;
    • Provides fresh water and nourishment between meals
    • Provides residents with help walking, exercising and moving in and out of bed
  • Provides for resident's personal hygiene, including:
    • Supplying and emptying bedpans
    • Giving baths, backrubs, shampoos,  shaves, and assists with showers
  • Administers enema, douches, non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat instruments, sitz and therapeutic baths and applies restraints
  • Observes residents’ conditions, measuring and recording and vital signs and weight, performs sugar and acetone testing, specimen collection and post-mortem care.  Reports any changes to licensed nurses for professional assessment
  • Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient and safe manner
  • Cleans rooms and changes linens
  • Transports patients, using a wheelchair or other appropriate means
  • Assists families and other visitors as needed
  • Attends in-service and department meetings as required
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE an equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 1 year of previous long-term care experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of a certified nursing assistant course, and obtainment of state certification.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position. 

  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Health Care — Basic knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Social Perceptiveness — Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Service Orientation — Actively looking for ways to help people
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

  • Time Management - Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents

COMPUTER SKILLS/EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Enema equipment, specimen collectors and containers, surgical gloves, therapeutic heating or cooling blankets, therapeutic heating or cooling pads, compresses or packs, urinalysis test strips.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch.  The employee is regularly required to wear protective clothing, use hands to handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell.  The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and odors, dust or fumes.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
