Orion Drilling Company ("ORION") is currently seeking a full time oilfield Electrician for new building/updating rigs.

Applies to all activities and guidelines for operations performed by the Electrician. This job installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties. This job description shall be reviewed as needed.


  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit.
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Terminates wiring at lighting fixtures, control boxes, connectors, and power equipment.
  • Installs control, monitoring and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, sensors, control boxes and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric motors or heaters, and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter or insulation test set. (Megger).
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Disassembles faulty electrical equipment, replaces defective or damaged components and re-assembles equipment.
  • Other tasks maybe assigned as needed.


  • Ensure the electric crew is in conformance with specifications and take action to correct errors.
  • Accountable for equipment being hooked up correctly. Test equipment post assembly.
Position Requirements

  • Education and Training – High school education or equivalent is preferred. Journeymen Certificate is preferred. A valid Driver’s License is required.

  • Basic Skills - Ability to read and interpret written instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 

  • Experience – 5 years oildfield electrical experience on AC & DC rigs.

  • Physical Demands - Regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Required to talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. Regularly required to walk and climb stairs. Must be able to lift, move or carry up to 50 pounds.  A large portion of the work will be off the ground so good balance and coordination is a must.
  • Working Conditions – This job is normally 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week including nights and weekends. Work is normally performed out-of-doors, where exposure to atmospheric conditions of extreme heat or cold is frequent.
