GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Local Church Ministries of The United Church of Christ Church Building & Loan Fund (CB&LF) is seeking an independent, innovative candidate with a working knowledge of how to develop, oversee and help implement programs and projects that support and advance the Fund’s mission, vision and short- and long-term strategies.  Working closely with the Executive Director, the Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives will play a key role in the periodic board/staff development, review and revision of CB&LF’s mission implementation strategy; help to identify, create and/or develop the steps _tactics, products and services_ needed to obtain organizational goals; and assist in monitoring progress and implementing course correction when necessary.  A core guiding principle for CB&LF today is to expand upon its tradition of leveraging assets for tangible, public, measurable impact in the advancement of mission and ministry. Aligning our strategic initiatives with the mission and values of CB&LF and the United Church of Christ creates greater leverage for impact by bringing all of CB&LF’s assets to bear in the advancement of mission. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In tandem with the Executive Director, drive the CB&LF mission implementation strategy by identifying the steps to reach Fund goals, maximizing effectiveness and successfully executing upon transformational goals.

 

  • Assist the Executive Director to develop and lead the mission implementation strategy, drive operational efficiency, field readiness, enablement and adoption ultimately resulting in improved satisfaction of loan partners and other customers/clients, Fund growth and increased staff engagement, performance and productivity .

 

  • Work with staff colleagues to define, develop, implement, track and report on metrics that: a)focus organizational resources on mission impact and Fund growth and b) identify trends and help the Executive Director to define new initiatives to advance the organizational mission.

 

  • Assist in the growth and development of CB&LF’s capacity to offer consulting services through development of the consulting business plan, direct church/client engagement, coordinating partnerships with new and existing consulting service providers, development of new products and services, monitoring performance toward goals and objectives.

 

  • Liaison with Fund staff, national setting colleagues, Conference Ministers and other denominational leaders, consultants, congregations and church organizations regarding assigned strategic initiatives to ensure alignment and high quality deployment of Fund resources. 

 

  • Provide leadership and guidance for change management and governance on strategic initiatives.

 

  • Assist the Executive Director in hiring decisions to ensure that employees have the knowledge, skills, experience and capacity to support organizational goals and advance the Fund’s mission.

 

  • Assist the Executive Director as needed in the management and supervision of Fund staff, coordinating the activity of deployed staff, collaborating with the Office Administrator in the smooth operation of the headquarters office.

 

  • Assist the Executive Director in representing CB&LF, LCM and the national setting of the UCC in all settings of the UCC, ecumenically, and in interfaith settings as appropriately related to this portfolio.

 

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, external and internal partners, identify linkages and dependencies and detect systemic disconnects and bottlenecks, resolve communications and interface issues across organizational silos.
     
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in education and experience, M Div. highly preferred; graduate degree preferred.

 

  • Pastoral experience, Ordination & Standing in the UCC or a denomination in communion with the UCC preferred.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a national level financial ministry.

 

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the United Church of Christ, its history and polity especially its commitment to prophetic ministry in the church and society.

 

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

 

  • Results oriented, demonstrated ability to achieve the highest levels of personal and organizational performance in order to exceed organizational goals.

 

  • Customer/client-focused, demonstrated ability to understand the perspective of the congregation/customer/client and ability to take actions to integrate their needs.

 

  • Demonstrated problem analysis/resolution skills; ability to gather information necessary to make decisions; ability to anticipate, identify, resolve problems in a timely manner; demonstrated awareness of using available resources

 

  • Ability to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious settings with a demonstrated commitment to pluralism in the workplace.

 

  • Ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships with persons representing a wide variety of racial and ethnic realities and perspectives.

 

  • Demonstrated written and verbal language skills in English including teaching and public speaking.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively.

 

  • Ability and willingness to travel as necessary.
