Job Title: Manager, Growth Center

Employment Status: Full-Time                                                      

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Manager of the Growth Center will assist the Director of the Arab American National Museum (AANM) with the day-to-day operations of the Growth Center @ AANM.  The manager will oversee the department, ensure the grant benchmarks are being met, ensure all reporting deadlines are met, guide the staff on daily activities, ensure timekeeping records are kept accurately, keep staff on task, and help grow programming and look for resources to continue to fund the program.  The manager will resolve or recommend solutions to complex problems.  Will grow partnerships and recruit clients. Leads defined work or projects of moderate scope and complexity.  May have extensive contact with internal and external customers to obtain additional grants and funding for the program as well as locate available outlets.

Growth Center @ AANM increases the capacities of metro Detroit’s immigrants and communities through economic and community development. Dedicated to empowering individuals and communities, the Growth Center provides immigrants, refugees and those with cultural and language barriers with direct connections to a broad array of resources. In addition to providing direct services, the Growth Center aligns clients with partner organizations and adds value to existing resources

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coaches and mentor subordinates and documents discussions on a regular basis.

  • Reviews progress of assignments with the Director.

  • Manages and operates a specified budget.

  • May participate in the writing of grant proposals in order to retain current funding and/or obtain new funding. Review grant contracts and consult with the Director on a regular basis to ensure compliance.

  • Maintain agency confidentiality and client’s privacy in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.

  • Establish and implement flow, processes, procedures, documents, forms that help guide daily operation of programs.

  • Plans, assigns, monitors and manages the work of others.

  • Resolves most questions, accomplishes most tasks without guidance.

  • Reviews performance and evaluates results achieved by subordinates.

  • May translate and interpret information for non-English speaking clients as needed.

  • May participate in public speaking events and/of various external meetings on behalf of ACCESS.

  • Responsible for hiring/firing decisions with Director’s concurrence; performance appraisals; departmental employee training and development; handles disciplinary problems in conjunction with HR.

  • Functions differ significantly from each other or a major function is broad and requires integration of differing complicated bodies of knowledge. Analytical ability is clearly required.

  • Will be consulted about spending trends and funding opportunities. Will be expected to manage and operate within a specified budget.

  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Entrepreneurial trends and ability to network in those circles.

  • Entrepreneurial concepts and ability to assist clients in maneuvering obstacles to achieve desired results.

  • Specific reasoning, mathematical and language skills required.

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to:

  • Manage conflict in a calm and professional manner.

  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.

  • Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed.

  • Objectively gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.

  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Handle stressful situations and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Speak and write in English. Ability to interpret, speak and write in Arabic, Spanish, or other native language of the predominant service population is a plus.

  • Maintain confidentiality of agency, employee and client information.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

Minimum Degree Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Required Disciplines:

  • Related field required;

  • At least two years working in a supervisory capacity.Experience with grant writing helpful.Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources. Experience in dealing with different communities and ability to outreach.

Hours:   Normal business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.

Travel Required: Local travel
