Machine Operator- Napa,CA, US

JOB STATEMENT:

This entry level Operator position is responsible for ensuring that proper materials are being used in the machines they are watching / attending while ensuring the machine is running in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for keeping machines full of proper materials / supplies and keeping the machine’s surrounding area clean. Responsible for accurate recording of paperwork related to the piece of equipment attending. Must be able to work any shift, rotate shifts, and work overtime as needed and / or weekends and holidays as needed with little or no notice. Must be able to run fillers, corkers, rinsers, foil / capsules dispensers, full case palletizer, bulk glass de-palletizer, carton erector, partition inserter, stretch wrappers, top sheet dispensers and pallet tag printers on any line at Barrel Ten. Work with other operators, production leads and other department personnel. Must wear all safety PPE required for machine and work area. Able to read, understand all safety warning signs, controls and will assist in any area of the winery as directed by production lead, supervisor or manager. Finally, must be able to read and understand specification, QA, Production sheets, labels and report any unsafe condition of area to supervisor. Understand and comply with all ISO9001 and HACCP processes and procedures.

FILLER / CORKER / RINSER POSITION:

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper corks, capsules and other materials are being used, while ensuring the machines they are watching / attending is running in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for keeping machines full of proper material and keeping the machines and surrounding area clean. Responsible for paperwork related to the piece of equipment being attended. Must be able to run fillers, corkers, rinsers, and foil/capsules dispensers on any line at Barrel Ten. Operate pallet-jack safely and effectively while moving pallets of materials.

DUTIES

  • Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes.
  • Must know and understand all Safety devise of all equipment within job responsibility and report any items, which are not working properly to Supervisor.
  • Must ensure correct foil and corks are being used.
  • Must ensure foil-dispensing machine is kept full of proper material.
  • Responsible for collecting all recyclable material wasted during a run.
  • Responsible for keeping the foiler, spinner and surrounding area clean.
  • Make sure proper materials are staged for run.
  • Must ensure cork hopper is kept fully loaded with proper corks.
  • Must prepare proper paperwork (i.e. cork, foil lot sheet and vacuum pressure).
  • Responsible for keeping machines and floors in clean room free from broken glass and loose cork.
  • Monitor operation of filler, corker, foiler, and spinner.
  • Keep all clean room doors closed at all times.
  • Able to clear jams.
  • Notify Lead, Supervisor or Maintenance personnel if a problem or safety issue arises.
  • Responsible for collecting and placing all unused material back into staged area for Inventory Control Coordinator (ICC) to put away.
  • Communicate with Line Supervisors, Cellar, Quality Assurance (QA), Maintenance, Line Workers, and other co-workers.
  • Must be able to operate bottling line equipment safely; Kronos labeler, Krones Filler / Corker / Rinser, Arrowhead Rinser and ABC un-loader.
  • Able to perform the duties of the GLW position
  • Assist in decanting of defective product
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

BULK GLASS DE-PALLETIZER POSITION:

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of the de-palletizer and conveying system they are operating / attending is running in a safe and efficient manner. Have to keep machine full of proper glass container, while keeping the machine’s surrounding area clean. Must ensure the bulk glass pallets are loaded in the correct direction of the magazine. Must be able to lift wooden frames and stack properly and safely, while keeping glass flow consistent with production speeds and filler needs. Able to use cutting devises to remove plastic strapping from bulk loads. Able to operate plastic strap cutting machine safety and reset de-bulk palletizer as needed.

DUTIES

  • Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes.
  • Must know and understand all Safety devise of all equipment within job responsibility and report any items, which are not working properly to Supervisor.
  • Monitor / run bulk glass de-palletizer equipment and bottling lines within assigned area.
  • Remove and stack wooden frames safely and correctly.
  • Responsible for keeping machines, floors clean and free from broken glass.
  • Responsible for keeping surrounding area clean.
  • Must ensure bulk glass pallet staging area is kept clean and organized.
  • Ensure the proper glass container is being loaded into de-palletizer.
  • Monitor operation of carton erector and partition inserter.
  • Assist carton erector operator or forklift operator as needed.
  • Notify Production Lead or Supervisor if a problem arises.
  • Responsible for collecting all recyclable materials during shift, placing in proper recycle container.
  • Communicate with Production Lead, Maintenance, and Line workers all issues dealing with area.
  • Must cross train with other operators to be able to operate bottling line equipment safely.
  • Make minor adjustments, to keep machine running efficiently.
  • Perform any reasonable request by a Production Lead or Supervisor.
  • Assist all other positions as needed or directed by Production Lead, Supervisor or Manager.

CARTON ERECTOR / PARTITION INSERTER POSITION:

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper cartons (KD’s), inserts and materials are being used. Responsible for ensuring the machines they are watching / attending is running in a safe and efficient manner. Have to keep both carton erector and partition inserter full of proper materials, while keeping the machine’s surrounding area clean. Responsible for all paperwork related to the equipment you are operating. Must ensure the carton (KD’s) are loaded in the correct direction of the carton erector magazine and ensure the bundles of inserts are loaded in the correct direction in the inserter magazine. Operate pallet-jack safely and effectively while moving pallets of materials. Able to use tape gun to assemble cartons as needed. Operator must be able to work around extremely hot equipment parts and materials area safely.

DUTIES

  • Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes.
  • Must know and understand all Safety devise of all equipment within job responsibility and report any items, which are not working properly to Production Lead or Supervisor.
  • Monitor carton erection equipment, partition inserter and bottling lines within assigned area.
  • Record materials usage on proper log sheet.
  • Must ensure correct carton (KD’s) are being used and loaded in correct direction.
  • Must ensure correct inserts are being used and loaded in the correct direction.
  • Responsible for keeping machine’s floors clean and free from broken glass, cardboard dust around the carton equipment and bulk glass de-palletizer.
  • Responsible for assisting other operator’s in keeping surrounding area clean.
  • Must ensure carton staging area is kept clean and organized.
  • Make sure proper materials are staged for shift.
  • Monitor operation of carton erector and partition inserter.
  • Assist bulk glass de-palletizer operator as needed.
  • Notify Production Lead or Supervisor if a problem arises.
  • Responsible for collecting and placing all unused material back into staged area for I.C.C. to put away.
  • Responsible for collecting all recyclable materials from shift, placing them into the correct recycle container.
  • Communicate with Production Lead, Maintenance, and Line workers all issues dealing with area.
  • Must cross train with other attendants to be able to operate bottling line equipment safely.
  • Make minor adjustments and un-jam to keep machines running efficiently.
  • Clean all change parts after change over. Let maintenance know when clean.
  • Able to perform, read and fill out check sheets and inspections.
  • Perform any reasonable request by a Production Lead or Supervisor.
  • Assist all other positions if needed or directed by Production Lead, Supervisor

LABEL MACHINE:

This position is responsible for ensuring the proper materials are being used, the machine you are operating is running in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for keeping machine full of proper materials while keeping the machine’s surrounding area clean. Also, responsible for paperwork related to the piece of equipment you are operating. As well, must be able to work alone or with little direction. Able to perform, read and fill out check sheets and inspections. Assist in the Quality Assurance (QA) inspection stations. In addition, must be able to communicate with co-workers, mechanic, supervisors, QA techs, leads and mangers. Assist Machine Operator1 or Machine Techs on setup and operation of labeler.

DUTIES:

  • Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes.
  • Responsible for checking and signing out the proper labels from the label room or cage.
  • Must turn into lead or supervisor signed check out or return label sheets.
  • Must ensure proper materials are being used.
  • Ensure the laser is working and coding correctly.
  • Must ensure there are two Quality Control (QC) people are at their station and ready before starting machine.
  • Must ensure the labels being run are at the proper heights, straightness and the margin spacing is in specification per QA specification sheet.
  • Must perform a bottle check every 15 minutes to ensure proper label application.
  • Responsible to maintain a clean label machine and surrounding areas.
  • Assist with washing bottles as needed.
  • Contact and work with maintenance if a problem arises.
  • Collect and bundle up all unused material at the end of a run and give to line Lead or Supervisor.
  • Attend all pre-shift meetings.
  • Monitor operation of case packer and case sealers. Un-jam as needed.
  • Record label information on label log sheet including cola number appellation.
  • Monitor line flow of product from clean room to case packer, while watching overhead full case conveyors for backups.
  • Communicate with shift Leads, Supervisors, Cellar, QA, Maintenance, Line workers and other Co-workers.

Safety Requirements:

  • All employees must be trained and familiar with Barrel Ten-Quarter Circle and Hacienda Wine Cellars Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
  • Report any and all spills or leaks of hazardous material and any unsafe condition to you supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with all general work safety rules pursuant to Barrel Ten and Hacienda’s Company Injury and Illness Program.
  • Personal protective equipment required:
    • Hardhats
    • Protective Gloves
    • Side shield glasses.
    • Earplugs.
    • Correct Rubber Gloves at sink

    • Appropriate footwear.
  • Appropriate attire must be worn

  • Must keep hair tied back and under hat.

  • Physical abilities required:
    • Able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Work in awkward positions for small periods.
    • Work on ladders and elevated platforms.
    • Spend extended period on feet. (6 to 8 hours)
    • Requires sitting for periods (30 min to 45 min)
    • Able to use portable step stools
