General Motors Spring Hill Manufacturing has a need for qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (e.g. machine repair, mechatronic technician). Working under minimal supervision with a high level of independent judgment and problem solving, the Mechanical Journeyperson is responsible for maintaining production and quality by ensuring operation of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. The Mechanical Journeyperson needs to be flexible enough to take on multiple job assignments in a shift and be skilled at priority setting.
Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
Troubleshoot and repair complex electromechanical systems working with other skilled and non-skilled Team Members
Fabricate, drill, weld, cut, and bolt to install, maintain, dismantle, repair, or replace mechanical components (e. g. bearings, seals, details, carriers, etc.) on industrial machinery
Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery such as shafting, motors, generators, air compressors, cranes, conveyor belts, engines, pumps, and valves
Maintain, and repair piping systems
Use various hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
Read and interpret blueprints for the mechanical operation and assembly of conveyor systems, material handling systems, robots, and other automation
Operate mobile equipment (e. g. forklifts, vertical lifts, cranes)
Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting
Plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools or assemblies using blueprints, sketches, or models
Determine quality of finished products, ensuring defect-free parts, by verifying dimensions, alignment, and clearances for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators
Promote teamwork and show a willingness to work with other departments;
Participate in continuous improvement activities;
Adhere to the principles of the GMS-Global Manufacturing System. “The Global Manufacturing System is a single, common manufacturing system that engages all employees to use best processes, practices, and technologies to eliminate waste throughout the enterprise.”
Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:
U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in a Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or six (6) years of documented experience in a Mechanical trade (notarized documentation required)
Able to work any shift and work some overtime including daily, weekend, and holidays
Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems
Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
