Description

Job Summary:  Seeking a highly motivated and technology savvy individual to act as a part-time temporary Library Assistant for Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh- Teen Services. 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage teens in creating digital content in a library setting and during outreach to local schools and community centers;

  • Implement The Labs programing, as designed by the Teen Services’ Digital Learning Lead Librarian;

  • Collaborate with the Teen and Children’s Specialist at CLP-Beechview and CLP-Hazelwood to integrate the Labs programming across age groups;

  • Work to develop rapport with the teens in the library and help to fulfill their informational and recreational needs;

  • Participate in system-wide initiatives and programs, and perform committee work, time-permitting.

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree;

  • The desire to work with school-age children and teens (ages 8-17) in an urban setting;

  • Experience teaching in an informational environment;

  • Active engagement in at least two of the following areas, “film-making, photography, musicianship, graphic design/digital art, computer programming, sewing/textiles or other creative pursuits;

  • Access to reliable transportation and the physical ability to transport equipment and materials to various libraries and outreach locations;

  • To better reflect the community this position will serve, fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred;

  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
