Job Title: Tutor

Employment Status: Temporary Part-Time

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 2:30PM-6:00PM (varies by school)

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to tutor in core academic subjects (math, science, language arts, and social studies) to groups or individuals requiring additional instruction to meet individual needs. Meets regularly with students who require academic improvement to provide assistance to increase understanding of a specific subject, develop basic skills, and study skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with homework. Explain concepts in a manner that students understand.

  • Observe and provide feedback on student’s work and behavior.

  • Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.

  • Supervise and monitor students.

  • Mentor students through daily interaction.

  • Communicate with parents as applicable.

  • Set-up, serve and clean up after USDA suppers.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Attend regular staff trainings, orientations, and professional development.

  • Oversee students on field trips

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Academic subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies or other subjects as required based on assigned program.

  • Appropriate and effective learning techniques and concepts for learners of different age levels.

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to:

  • Interact effectively and appropriately with students of all ages.

  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Provide a high level of customer service.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

Minimum Degree Required:

  • High school diploma
  • And at least 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university, or successful completion of 12 credit hours of Master Teacher Professional Development

~and~

  • GPA of at least 3.0 in math and language arts courses and a strong knowledge of specified academic subjects or any equivalent combination of experience (one year), education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

  • Applicants who advance throughthe interview process will be required to complete a basic math and language arts assessment and score 70% or higher to be considered for employment.

Licenses/Certifications:

Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire:

  • none

Training Required:

  • 16 clock hours of training throughout the year
  • Blood borne Pathogens Training

Working Conditions:

Hours:  Normal business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.

Travel required: local travel

Working Environment:  Climate controlled office environment.
