Developmental Specialist II

Provides home-based and/or community-based early intervention services with infants and toddlers, ages birth to 3 years, with developmental delays and their families.


Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Administers developmental evaluations, assessments and screenings.
  • Leads infant-toddler family groups to facilitate the infant-toddler’s development and provides families with training and support.
  • Provides home based special instruction and family service coordination services to families.
  • Develops and implements Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs)
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate files and data entry in accordance with ILP and agency policies.
  • Participates as a team member in transdisciplinary assessments.
  • Travels to Wrangell community to deliver services as needed.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other providers and agencies serving families.  In doing so, makes referrals and accesses resources for infants, toddlers and their families.
  • Work is performed primarily within the client’s home, including evening home visits; and will require driving during inclement weather conditions.
  • Facilitates the transition process for toddlers exiting from the program based on ILP standards.


Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participates in public awareness activities and child find efforts.
  • Provides in-service training as necessary within the program, parent groups, community, and at statewide conferences.
  • Supervises student teachers as needed.
  • Understands and complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and federal/state law.
  • Maintains and promotes a positive professional working relationship with all employees.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, committees and training as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the ILP Director.


Position Requirements

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field with certification/licensure OR Master’s degree in early childhood or special education without certification/licensure. CPR and first aid certificates required within 30 days of hire. TB, fingerprint and background check clearance required. Must have current Alaska driver’s license and auto insurance per agency standards.


Minimum Experience:  1-year experience working with infants and toddlers in an early intervention or early childhood setting required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, spreadsheets and other database applications.

  • Strong organization, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.


Physical Requirements: Ability to perform sedentary and active work with some lifting may be required. Ability to sit on the floor for up to 90 minutes and move up and down from it independently.  Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment.


Working Conditions: Work is performed at client homes, in the community, and at REACH office.  This requires traveling to home and community visits and some evening visits.  This includes monthly travel to Wrangell.
