Description

As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will support the Director of Safety and Risk Management in administrative compliance and systems support related to employee safety and risk management. You will provide technical safety and health support to personnel in all areas of the business to ensure compliance with Federal/State and Company safety and health regulations and procedures. You will administer corporate safety, health and wellness programs and objectives and coordinate safety training programs Company wide. Additionally, you will manage multiple databases to ensure consistent, timely and documented compliance with H&S regulations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Systems Management (50% of the time)

  • Manage the administration, maintenance and employee use of the Otis online training system to support required training for off-site personnel

  • Manage the administration, maintenance and Company use of the Sitehawk SDS database system by working with the vendor, departments and purchasing to ensure validity of content and placement of required information within the system and organization

  • Utilize Ascentis Human Resources system to track employee certifications like respirator use and equipment operators

  • Manage all aspects of the certificate of insurance process utilizing Cybersure database system

Administrative Compliance (40% of the time)

  • Lead, participate in, develop and distribute minutes for CARE3, Health & Safety and Wellness sub-committees

  • Coordinate, track and assist with all aspects of CARE3 recognition program

    • Order, distribute and maintain individual awards and safety buck prizes

    • Produce, distribute and communicate annual program details, quarterly winners and year-end results in a timely fashion

    • Support department efforts in meeting monthly and yearly objectives by engaging representatives and offering suggestions on opportunities to increase performance

  • Work with Departments and Director of Safety and Risk Management to develop and distribute annual safety training calendars for the Company

    • Conduct, facilitate and develop training and resources on multiple topics related to wine production, heavy equipment, maintenance and agriculture to ensure a safe workforce and meet regulatory compliance requirements

    • Order training equipment and maintain inventory of safety training materials and supplies

    • Manage safety training library including video and print inventory

    • Develop class rosters for all certification courses and communicate particulars to involved departments

    • Utilize Ascentis Human Resources system to track individual employee certifications

    • Maintain all records in accordance with established practices and State and Federal requirements

  • Support Director of Safety and Risk Management with various aspects of workers compensation claims

  • Provide data entry and report generation as needed to Departments and Directors relative to areas of health, wellness, safety and insurance

  • Maintain Excel spreadsheets for incident reports, non-conformances, hazard inspection findings including completion of corrective actions and provide monthly recaps and reports to departments until integration of Intelex system is completed

Miscellaneous Compliance and Field Work (10% of the time)

  • Conduct inspections as needed to identify hazards, ensure fire extinguishers, first aid kits and spill Prevention kits are compliant

  • Coordinate all aspects of annual hearing tests for the Company

  • Manage, track and schedule all pressure vessel permitting

  • Conduct and participate in incident investigations related to injuries, near misses and property loss or damage

  • Provide emergency response for injuries or illnesses that may occur on properties in and around Mendocino County

  • In conjunction with Human Resources and H&S Committee members ensure departmental required postings are compliant

  • Conduct and coordinate ergonomic assessments in office and production locations as needed

  • Promote a responsible environmental, health and safety culture through cross-functional cooperation, teams, communications and training

  • Maintain and order first aid kits and supplies

 
Position Requirements

Must Requirements:

  • 2 years related experience

  • General knowledge and understanding of State/Federal health and safety regulations

  • Ability to respond and be comfortable in emergency situations that could involve injury or illness

  • Valid CA Driver’s License

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of agricultural or wine industry practices.

  • Experience in administration and implementation of software systems.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • College degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, or related field

Skills:

  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions and changing deadlines and instructions

  • Proficient in Windows based computer programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Internet

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all levels of personnel, as well as external contacts, vendors and contractors

  • Independent decision making ability with minimal supervision; Professional business writing and oral communication skills; Solution driven with excellent reasoning skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and high degree of trust and integrity

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift & carry up to 40 lbs. & push and pull up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis; ability to sit and work at a desk for long periods of time; requires ability to walk and stand; reach outward and upward, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend; requires hand and finger dexterity for keyboarding and working at computer for extended periods of time.

About Fetzer Vineyards:

Our multi-site California winery operation includes 1000 acres of farmed vineyards and 3 million cases produced annually. Operations include Mendocino County winery, production and vineyard locations; Paso Robles winery and Jekel vineyard operation in Greenfield, with a combined sales of approximately $185 Million and combined employment of 315 with an additional approximately 40 seasonally.

Fetzer Vineyards’ corporate office is located at 12901 Old River Rd Hopland, CA 95449  Hopland is a small town of less than 800 people located at the start of the Redwoods of Northern California. It is about a two hour drive, along scenic U.S. Route 101, north of San Francisco.
