Successful applicants will become members of the Pine Rest Psychological Consultation Center (PCC) in a "clinical intern" capacity. The PCC is a group of Psychologists and supporting staff who conduct a wide variety of psychological assessment and consultation with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. In this undergraduate internship, interns will work with PCC clients administering and scoring testing protocol primarily for those suspected of having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This work is supervised through individualized instruction and interns will be given opportunities to further study areas related to their work with the clients and to observe Psychologists in their other daily work.

By the end of this unpaid volunteer experience, interns will have administered a number of psychological tests to a wide age-range of clients and will better understand the fundamental elements of psychological testing and measurement. Interns will also have the opportunity to work closely with practicing Psychologists including involvement in psychological consultations and evaluations within the clinical setting.

Commitment:

We require a four (4) month commitment for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours per week minimum (minimum total hours required is 130). Hours required per week must be worked in full days, up to eight (8) working hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm). In certain circumstances, we may consider half days of no less than five (5) hour time blocks of: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm or 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. We offer on-going volunteer internship positions available for various times of the year (please apply during the appropriate deadline associated to your desired internship commitment). Position Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Psychology Major required.
  • We will not accept MA level applicants.
  • Lower level courses in psychology required, Upper level courses required in abnormal, development, statistics, & research is required. Courses in testing, psychological consultation, and/or personality preferred.
  • Students with either a Senior or Junior standing are required, we may also consider individuals who have recently completed and graduated with their undergraduate degree in psychology.

About the Organization Pine Rest is a nonprofit, free standing, behavioral health system founded in 1910 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This comprehensive behavioral health center, coupled with the Pine Rest network of 19 outpatient clinics and satellite offices in Michigan and Iowa, provide individualized and group therapy for people of all ages and all levels of need. Pine Rest clinicians offer therapeutic services in behavioral health for people of all ages and all levels of need across the continuum of care within a Christian framework.

Pine Rest has a 200-bed inpatient hospital program with a 36-bed child and adolescent inpatient and a large partial hospital program for adolescents. Additionally, Pine Rest has many inpatient services for adults, including: a 28-bed psychiatric-medical unit in an acute care hospital, four 22-bed adult inpatient units each designed for a different level of acuity, a 22-bed co-occurring substance use disorder adult inpatient unit, a large adult partial hospital program, and a 26-bed older adult inpatient unit.

The Pine Rest Community and Residential Services Division also provides a wide array of services. With over 220 residential beds across a variety of programs, including treatment for substance use disorders, homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disorders, adults with mental illness, and a program for youth aged 11-18 with extensive trauma histories focusing on trauma treatment and life skills programming.

Other campus based services include a forensic psychiatry clinic, a psychological consultation testing center, an attention deficit disorders clinic, an autism spectrum disorders clinic, and a large neuromodulation clinic which provides TMS and ECT services.

The medical staff includes over 70 psychiatrists and other MDs/DOs, more than 120 fully licensed psychologists, more than 250 licensed masters-level social workers, and 30 PAs/NPs.
