GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: The role is to support searches from beginning to end for Conference Ministers, Interims, Designated and Associate Conference Ministers (Associate CMs at the request of the sitting CM) and to provide administrative support to the Cabinet and Council of Conference Ministers. The Search Coordinator provides services as listed, but recognizes at times that a conference may need additional resource persons for conflict management or substantial visioning assessment support, during leadership transition.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with MESA in announcing openings, distributing profiles to Conference Search Committees, providing sample conference profiles, providing appropriate salary information and all of the other administrative functions associated with the search.
  • Use traditional and non-traditional resources to identify and attract quality candidates
  • Explain and clarify the role of the Board, versus the role of the Search committee.
  • Work with the Board to understand the options available (Interim, Designated and Settled) assure clarity about the options as the Conference Board determines which option best fits the needs of the Conference.
  • If an interim is desired, assist the Conference in locating possible interim leadership. Once appointed, support the Search Committee in all aspects of the Search. This includes explaining the process, providing support for the completion of the Conference Profile, answering questions about process, announcing positions and assuring that profiles are forwarded to the Committee according to processes and guidelines established with MESA.
  • Support the Search Committee in arranging mock interviews and vetting candidates.
  • Be proactive in recruiting and developing a diverse leadership pool of possible candidates for Conference Ministry
  • Coordinate a process to work with conference ministers to review those in the profile system indicating and interest in Conference Ministry
  • Support the Conference Search Processes reading and reviewing the profiles of persons who have indicated an interest in serving in Conference settings to identify those who appear to have potential for the role.
  • Follow up with candidates and conference ministers appropriately to ensure updated information on process status.  
  • Work to ensure compliance with all federal/state laws and regulations including Equal Opportunity compliance.
  • Respond to questions about the search process as required.

 

Council of Conference Ministers and Cabinet Support

 

  • Maintain the records of the Cabinet and Council of Conference Ministers, including minutes, lists and dates of appointments, terms of office, etc.
  •  Provide administrative assistance in planning and arranging for CCM and Cabinet meetings interfacing with national UCC staff, and hotels as needed
  • Administer, support, maintain and update the CCM Listserve, Google Groups or other platform to facilitate communication among Conference Ministers.

 

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or related field plus 3-5 years of demonstrated recruiting experience.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to prioritize work and to perform with minimum supervision.
  • Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.
  • Strong understanding of the need for confidentiality and discretion in human relations skills.
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with a commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one's understanding of mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated competencies:  Time Management, Organizational Skills, Business Acumen, Diversity and Inclusion, Initiative, Technical Capacity, and Decision-Making.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, databases and recruitment platforms; ease with adapting to new technology. Proficiency with Zoom, Googlegroups, and/or other technology for distance collaboration.
  • Ability to travel within the United States
