Responsible for performing general accounting duties under the direction of the Finance Director, Assistant Finance Director, and/or Manager.

Assist in the fulfillment of the agency’s vision, “For Those We Serve,” by empowering individuals to thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our communities.



This position is assigned to serve in one or more accounting areas within the Finance Office, including but not limited to: Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Payroll, Pension, Program Accounting, Quality Assurance, and/or Treasury

Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

Assists employees, vendors, and/or funding agencies with inquiries.

Compares invoices, purchase orders, and other supporting documents for consistency.

Generates journal entries.

Maintains Excel worksheets for tracking of data and potential import into other software systems.

Performs preliminary reconciliation of accounts.

Prepares audit schedules and special reports, as assigned.

Prepares cost allocations.

Reviews and follow-up on outstanding checks.

Reviews employee time records for accuracy and appropriateness.

Reviews data and compiling it into financial reports for billing purposes.

Reviews transactions to ensure compliance with control procedures.

Supports supervisors in developing and conducting presentations.

Traces general ledger activity to supporting documentation and identify abnormalities.

Prepares and submits reports for assigned area(s) and communicates status to appropriate parties as required.

Performs sorting and filing

Occasionally travels for agency business using personal/agency vehicle.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required. 


Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience preferred.


Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices (with preference in grant reporting and related governmental regulations) and procedures.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and computerized accounting systems/applications, 10 Key by touch, and data entry experience in accounting environment.

Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

Able to meet established deadlines.

Strong analytical skills.

Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, adequate auto insurance as required by State law, and insurability by agency carrier.
