Cogswell College seeks a Chief Executive Officer to build the institution into a position of global leader offering degrees, certificates and courses in the areas of technology and business. Regionally accredited, Cogswell is a hands-on academic institution currently offering a strong suite of programs in game design and the digital arts, both on ground and online. The college seeks an individual with the entrepreneurial vision, passion, and talent to lead it to its next stage of growth, advancing into new programmatic areas and significantly increasing the number of students at its Silicon Valley campus and around the world.

About the College

Cogswell College recently celebrated its 125th anniversary and is the second oldest operating college in California. It is a for-profit institution featuring a rich, project-based, student centered approach to learning. The college has long educated practical, imaginative and entrepreneurial leaders who excel in dynamic, creative industries. Its graduates are well respected in the digital arts world, with a legacy of contribution to culture and media. It is regionally accredited at both the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. Its current degree programs include, Game Design and Development, Digital Art and Animation, Digital Audio Technology, Engineering, and Bachelor of Business Administration. It also offers a certificate program in Virtual Reality. Programs in other areas of disruptive technology education are being considered.

Cogswell is overseen by an internationally recognized Board of Trustees that includes executives, academics and entrepreneurs, and is backed financially by Palm Ventures, an investment firm with 20 years of success in providing financial and strategic assistance to more than 40 post-secondary institutions.

Position Description

The CEO is charged with achieving the college’s stated mission:

Cogswell Polytechnical College's mission is to be a leader in providing practical education in the combined disciplines of technology with an emphasis on leadership, and a strong focus on new technologies and business models to prepare graduates for careers in the global economy.

The trustees are seeking an experienced individual who has demonstrated dynamic leadership in high-growth environments. The CEO must be a skilled strategist able to envision, propose, and implement change and have a proven record of engaging the college, community, and external partners in sustained growth. The successful candidate will have the capacity to motivate others to extraordinary levels of achievement through effective team building and driving collaboration among faculty, staff, students and the Board of Trustees.

In addition, the new CEO will have higher education experience and provide the leadership and direction needed to fulfill the mission and goals of a regionally accredited degree-granting institution in the 21st century. A clear commitment to innovative programming and instruction, student success, compliance, fiscal responsibility and growth is essential. S/he will provide, develop and maintain strong leadership and guidance, seek continuous improvement through data-driven decisions, foster positive change, ensure a sense of community, collaboration and teamwork. This leader will be responsible for student recruitment, enrollment growth, retention, graduation rates, and support the development and implementation of new programs. In addition, the president will promote the visibility of the college/campus within the community and region and strengthen the college’s reputation through partnerships and relationships with business and industry leaders in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Job Responsibilities

Accountable for the development and execution of the vision and strategic direction for the institution in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and the executive management team.

Manage the institution’s resources with prudence and integrity.

Accountable for student recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion, and graduation.

Assures compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body standards and regulations, as well as adhering to all policies and procedures.

Ensures strong human resources management and evaluation of campus leaders, faculty and staff.

Maintains a desirable, attractive and safe campus environment. Assesses resource needs and ensures that the resources are planned and properly implemented.

In collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research and Quality Assurance, leads planning, research, and outcomes of assessment activities. Ensures that research, data and outcomes are followed-up with appropriate plans and actions.

Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships with students, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and business/industry leaders and partners.

Represents the college in external activities in order to build the school’s reputation for superior academic quality and high industry demand for interns and graduates.

Utilizes appropriate means to communicate to the external and internal community, including students on college matters and decisions that will affect them.

 
Position Requirements

Qualifications
• Experience with, or demonstrated understanding of, the for-profit model in higher education preferred.
• Demonstrated success as a considerate visionary and change agent in dramatically growing businesses, institutions, and/or programs.
• Prior Executive level leadership experience, with compelling evidence of strong leadership skills with a shared management style that can engage and inspire students, faculty and staff to create an extraordinary academic learning environment.
• A passion for academic excellence, strategic growth and student success.
• An understanding of disruptive technologies and business in gaming, digital media, mobile technologies, virtual and augmented reality or any other sector that has undergone recent significant technological change.
• Demonstrated ability to work with business, industry, government, and the innovative community in Silicon Valley and beyond.
• Master's or higher level degree from a regionally accredited institution, or equivalent is REQUIRED
