Description

The Systems Administrator is responsible for overall maintenance, backup, health, and security of HSE Integrated’s IT ecosystem. The Systems Administrator identifies weaknesses or shortcomings of existing systems, and researches/suggests new solutions to other members of the IT Team. This position also provides backup and Tier II/III support for HSE’s technical support specialists, helping to resolve issues and assisting end-users day to day issues. The ideal candidate for this position will be a multi-skilled systems administrator, with a wide variety of experience in a wide range of systems and technologies.

 

General Duties:

  • Administer, monitoring, and troubleshoot a variety of corporate IT systems, ranging from desktops, servers, networking, storage, and mobile devices
  • Identify issues with existing systems; research and recommend solutions and alternatives
  • Adhere to common IT methodologies and standards (eg. ITIL)
  • Plan and implement various small and large IT projects (upgrades, migrations, new systems)
  • Maintain accurate and up to date system documentation and inventory of corporate systems
  • Provide after-hours emergency infrastructure support and after-hours maintenance as needed
  • Provide hands-on or telephone support directly to end users regarding all network application and usability problems that may arise
  • Provide Tier I support if technical support staff are busy or unavailable
  • Provide Tier II and III support to technical support staff
  • Work closely with other members of the IT team, providing support and making recommendations to improve systems and processes.
  • Work closely with corporate staff and users, helping to resolve day to day issues, training on corporate systems and technologies, and translating staff needs into technical requirements
  • Keep accurate inventory and records
  • Minimal Travel (5%)
 
Position Requirements

Technical Skills:

The ideal candidate will have junior/intermediate-level technical knowledge in the following areas:

  • Common Microsoft enterprise technologies, such as Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange 2010+, Lync, etc.
  • Enterprise networking; knowledge of common protocols and technologies such as STP, OSPF, VPNs, VLANs. Familiarity with Cisco IOS and/or Palo Alto Networks would be considered an asset
  • Remote Desktop and related VDI-based technologies, such as Microsoft RDP and Citrix
  • Enterprise Storage and related technologies such as iSCSI, NFS, Tiering, and deduplication. Exposure to Dell EqualLogic storage would be considered an asset
  • Common Virtualization technologies and concepts, specifically VMware vSphere.
  • Enterprise Mobility technologies and strategies, specifically the Apple iOS platform
  • Operating system deployment and related technologies such as MDT, PXE, etc.
  • Corporate Backup Software and related technologies
  • Automation technologies, including PowerShell and other scripting languages

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years industry experience in a Systems Administration role within a Microsoft-centric IT environment
  • Current and relevant industry certifications (MCITP, MCSE, VCP, CCNA, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years of Group Policy Management
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a VMware environment
  • Minimum 2 years MS Exchange Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of security concepts and industry best practices
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation
  • Ability to work with a geographically distributed and diverse user base.
  • Project Management skills
  • Networking knowledge
  • SAN Experience an asset
  • Dell Server experience an asset
