Job Title:  Training Specialist

Employment Status:  Full-Time

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to design, develop and deliver employment training skills with the end goal of helping the end user meet the demands of “entry-level” employment. May conduct training in a variety of areas including but not limited to basic computer and computer software skills, resume preparation and interviewing skills, written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution, business etiquette, problem solving and decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess training needs of each participant through the use of entrance interviews, assessment testing and collaboration with program case managers.
  • Organize and develop, or obtain course materials such as handouts and visual materials.
  • Present information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.
  • Develop alternative training classes if expected outcomes are not seen.
  • May create targeted lesson plans for each individual or groups of individuals designed to help the participant(s) obtain entry level employment skills.
  • Monitor, evaluate and record training activities and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate and complete attendance records and prepare weekly/monthly reporting as needed.
  • Classroom setup with computers and internet as required.
  • Maintains currency in training and development techniques.
  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, methods, and techniques of adult learning.
  • The effective use of instructional media.
  • Teaching methods and principles.
  • Individual and group behavior.
  • Applicable computer and software use.

Skill in:

  • Operating a variety of computer software programs and multimedia devices.

Ability to:

  • Organize and develop instructional material and present information and material in an interesting and challenging manner.
  • Organize and maintain records and appropriate documentation.
  • Evaluate individual and/or group instructional needs.
  • Communicate sufficiently to teach adults.
  • Maintain proficiency in subject matter taught.
  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.
  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science, or other related degree program.

  • At least two years of hands on experience planning and implementing lesson plans and teaching/tutoring adults or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources. State teaching certificate preferred.

Hours:   Normal business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.
