Experimental Auto Journeyperson (Milford) 


General Motors is anticipating future opportunities for experienced Experimental Auto Journeypersons. Working under minimal supervision, the Experimental Auto Journeyperson is responsible for working with current production and/or pre-production vehicles. Candidates must have no less than six (6) years of experience and/or be a graduate apprentice or have a Department of Labor journeypersons card. These will not be entry level positions; therefore inexperienced individuals need not apply.



  • Access, comprehend, and follow trouble trees and service instructions
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Disassemble and rebuild current production or pre-production vehicles.
  • Build subassemblies as required – Doors, IP’s, Headliners, Cradles, Chassis, etc.
  • Identify the proper fit and function of vehicle components.
  • Remove and install all types of automotive components, (e.g., trim, glass, engine, transmission, radiator, HVAC, powertrain, chassis, and all electrical modules
  • Use Dynamic Torque and Static Torque equipment, achieving torque and angle requirements.
  • Use vehicle hoists and overhead cranes.
  • Diagnose and debug vehicle electrical and software systems and document findings
  • Building new or rework wire harnesses
  • Communicate with various groups including Production and Engineering teams.
  • Understand and follow GM quality and audit processes

Basic computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Position Requirements

Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as an Experimental Auto journeyperson or six (6) years of documented experience as a vehicle mechanic or vehicle technician (notarized documentation required)
  • Ability to work any shift and work some overtime including daily, weekend, and holidays

  • At least 18 years of age;
  • Eligible to work in the United States;
  • Submit to a drug test and background check.
