The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture invites applications for a Teaching Fellow in residence for Fall 2017. The Fellowship is open to architects, engineers, artists, designers, and educators who are committed to experimental architecture. We are seeking candidates who are creative, true teachers and learners, and motivated to work in our two Frank Lloyd Wright-designed campuses with a small student body of two dozen students. Fellows will follow our motto of “live architecture” by being full-time members of our community, living and working at Taliesin and Taliesin West.

With an emphasis on learning by doing, and an integration not only of the various aspects of architecture into a design search, but also to the understanding of architecture as part of a wider culture, the School seeks catalysts for change who can bring a fresh perspective both to design and to visual presentation, structural integrity, landscape integration, and community change through design, history, and theory. We are especially interested in those designers who can integrate and teach structural exploration with design/build projects.

Position Requirements

To support the School’s mission to seek ways to make the human-made environment more sustainable, open, and beautiful, we are looking for candidates who have direct professional experience with architecture and design and demonstrate an ability to generate projects and learning opportunities that use strong research methods and in the design process. We are looking for candidates who can conceive, propose, organize, and successfully complete projects that demonstrate a strong vision for exploratory and experimental research. Fellows cultivate diverse, collaborative, and artistic studio culture.

The Fellows shall also participate in a variety of School activities including pin-up and critique, independent studies, field trips, and cultural activities, including performances and lecture series.

We are seeking a nine-month appointment, but we will consider appointments of varied lengths. Applicants should specify the length of appointment desired from one to three semesters. The School is in Spring Green, Wisc., from May to October and Scottsdale, Ariz., from October to May. The Summer Session takes place from May to August.
