Volunteer Engagement Coordinator 

Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for coordinating volunteer program functions, logistics and activities in support of zoo-wide needs including event support. This position serves as lead in recruitment/interview/placement/coordination of volunteers into specialty positions, and as lead for docent programming and training. This position works in close collaboration with other volunteer coordinators (adult and youth) to share overlapping coordination efforts including training, day-to-day volunteer supervision, support, recognition and communication with volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate volunteer program functions, logistics and activities in support of zoo-wide needs.
  • Serve as lead staff for volunteers, specialists, instructors/presenters, and interns.
  • Schedule programs, staff, volunteers and resources.
  • Lead program and project development teams.
  • Coordinate, develop and facilitate trainings for volunteers and program participants.
  • Coordinate research, development, revision and dissemination of program/project supporting materials and interpretive elements.
  • Support supervisory team in maintenance of internal and external partnerships.
  • Present engaging programs, experiences and activities to audiences of all ages on and off zoo grounds.
  • Evaluate programs and interpretive elements.
  • Collect and report statistics and prepare reports.
  • Work in close team relationship with other volunteer coordinators to share overlapping coordination efforts such as providing day-to-day volunteer supervision and support, providing clear communication to volunteers, and assisting with quarterly and annual recognition events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university; and 2 years related experience and/or training in volunteer coordination; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certificate in Volunteer Administration (CVA) preferred, but not required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications; particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Volgistics. Must be able to work with customized databases and technology, and conduct Internet research.

CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS

Must be enthusiastic and customer service oriented and deal with clients in a courteous and professional manner. Enjoy working with the public including diverse populations and people of all ages.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
