Judge Baker Children's Center improves the quality of children's mental health care by translating research into programs and services that change lives. Our mission is to promote the best possible mental health of children through the integration of research, intervention, training, and advocacy. For nearly 100 years, Judge Baker has been instrumental in creating a continuum of care that supports children's healthy development at the policy, systems, and practice levels. Our research, direct programs and services, training, and advocacy make Judge Baker a preeminent voice and active resource on issues of children's mental health.

The Vice President of Programs (VPP) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for all program areas and external business development. The position will report directly to the CEO and be a part of the senior management team that drives the overall strategy for the organization and represents Judge Baker Children's Center (JBCC) on a local, regional, and national basis. The VPP will develop deep knowledge of each program, and will focus on the following three areas: program leadership and management, external relationships, and dissemination of knowledge. 

 

Program Leadership & Management:

  • Enhance, operationalize, and implement organizational vision as established by CEO and JBCC's Strategic Plan
  • Manage, oversee, and promote ongoing programmatic excellence; Supervise program directors and leads
  • Work collaboratively with leadership in finance, administration, institutional advancement, and communications to advance the strategic goals of JBCC; provide leadership in development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational growth
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to expand their scope of responsibility and performance
  • Work with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality program management; identify and implement key metrics to monitor progress toward goals
  • Support grant writing and fundraising activities to promote program development and expansion
  • Oversee and be responsible for organizational HIPAA/FERPA compliance including data safety and security

 

External Relationships:

  • Work collaboratively, and under the direction of the CEO, to expand and strengthen external relationships; act as an ambassador and representative of the organization in multiple settings
  • Expand revenue generating and programmatic activities to promote the growth and sustainability of JBCC; cultivate existing relationships and develop new relationships with key stakeholders including federal, state, and local governmental agencies, provider organizations, academic affiliates and funders
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations; ensure that all deliverables are accomplished in a timely fashion with the highest degree of excellence
  • Work at the policy, systems, and practice levels to promote high quality mental healthcare for children

 

Dissemination of Knowledge:

  • Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge that is generated across programs and services
  • Develop and implement strategies to establish JBCC as a thought leader and bridge the gap between research and practice
  • Understand and apply implementation science to disseminate and sustain evidence-based practices and programs within multiple systems of care
  • Develop and apply communications and dissemination strategies to share knowledge with a wide range of communities
  • Work collaboratively with the senior management team to integrate cross program activities and functions within JBCC.

Position Requirements

The VPP will be thoroughly committed to JBCC’s strategy and mission. All candidates should have demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and relationship management experience.  Ideal candidates will have a range of experiences working at the policy, systems and practice levels to promote high quality care for children as well as a proven track record in program development, grant writing and systems development.  Advanced degree (doctoral degree in related field preferred), with at least 10 years of management experience.

While not a requirement, pursuing ongoing research or policy activities is desirable; an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School can be pursued and supported as part of this position.

Program Leadership and Management- This individual will have taken a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a track record of effectively leading a performance-based and outcome-based program and staff. S/he will have developed and operationalized strategies that have taken a program or organization to the next stage of growth, and have a proven record of developing strong, collaborative teams.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously

 

Exceptional Communication and Influencing Skills- As a voice/advocate of JBCC, the VPP will have strong written and verbal communication skills. S/he will be a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. This individual must work collaboratively with internal as well as external partners and other organizations, serving as a key representative of JBCC and its programs. Ideally, this person will have extensive experience working at the local, state and national levels in the children’s mental health field.

  • Strong demonstrated program development experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including  policy makers, provider organizations, state and federal agencies, schools, foundations, funders, and academia
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • An individual who is able to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities

salary range Full time position, salary commensurate with experience. Salary range: 125k-150k.
