Description

Job Summary:

An EMR/Firefighter’s main objective is to provide firefighting, fire protection and emergency response services as directed by operations and/or Supervisor. Ensure that injured workers are provided with immediate and professional standby and emergent onsite medical care, and to advise and/or arrange timely transport to a health care facility as needed.

  • Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Read, understand and comply with HSE’s Medical Control Guidelines, safety policies and job procedures, as well as all applicable government laws and regulations.
  • Report to the areas station manager and take specific job directions from Operations for the station in which he/she is working.
  • Work within their applicable scope of practice determined by their licensing body and under the medical control of the HSE Medical Director, utilizing the HSE Medical Control Guidelines
  • Conduct fire / shower protection services in accordance to standard operational procedures.
  • Set up and maintain HSE Integrated firefighting and/or shower equipment as described in specific procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings with emphasis on specific hazards.
  • Engage personnel on the location of pertinent safety, shower and firefighting equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date roster of personnel on location.
  • Ensure that all job related paperwork is correctly completed and submitted in a timely manner
  • Performs pre / post trip equipment inspections and provide additional written service requests that detail problems and / or required repairs.
  • Perform general maintenance on fire and shower apparatus and appliances as required by the preventative maintenance program, under the guidance and direction of the Fleet Manager or a designate.
  • Operate company vehicles in a professional manner, in accordance to HSE policy, highway traffic laws and any rules of operation in effect on privately owned roads.
 
Position Requirements
  • NFPA 1001 level 1 & 2 certifictaions
  • Current (unrestricted) registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Previous industrial fire fighting experience and/or professional fire training in accordance with NFPA standards
  • Previous EMR experience
  • Valid Class 3Q (or equivalent) driver’s license with clean driver's abstract
  • Previous industrial experience is an asset
  • Preference will be given to candidates residing in Alberta
