SUMMARY

The job activities for this position include driving a tractor/trailer and potentially other smaller vehicles to make customer deliveries of doors, frames and hardware to construction sites, customer facilities, and to other LaForce branch offices.  Delivery activities include securing, moving materials within truck and unloading materials at branches and at a minimum, staging materials at end of truck for customer site unloading, verification of delivery receipt and BOL with verification of possible damage and quantity variations.   Maintain 5-S standards and housekeeping of warehouse/dock area along with vehicles.  Also expected is actively support and participate in Continuous Improvements activities by applying Lean Manufacturing tools to daily activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.  Delivery:

a.  Have and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and pass DOT physical, Demonstrated history of a consistent and safe driving record,  Maintain DOT driver’s log and paper work for accurate record keeping.

b.  Demonstrate safe driving practices of a tractor/trailer including an understanding of size and weight restrictions and vehicle performance/handling characteristics such as: acceleration, braking, turning, blind spots, etc. Effectively maneuvering the tractor/trailer in and out of job sites and loading docks so as not to damage vehicle, cargo or surroundings, and safely balancing and securing the load in the trailer.

c.  Daily vehicle safety inspections along with identifying mechanical problems and /or unsafe conditions associated with the tractor/trailer, roads and or job sites.

d.  Loading and unloading frames doors and skids at job sites and/or branch offices

e.   Verify load against shipping papers.  Prepares receipts for load picked up.

2.   Warehouse:

a.  Pulls required material for delivery identified from pick lists and other shipping/loading paperwork, conveys material to dock areas and either loads directly onto truck or stages in dock area to be loaded and/or packaged.

b.   Loads and unloads truck. Secures loaded materials in trailer/truck for safe travel.

c.    Conveys materials and items to/from receiving, storage or production areas as needed, via forklift. Marks materials with identifying information.

d.   Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. Maintains inventory records of staged/storage area. Uses computer to enter records.

e.   Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.

3.   General:

a.   Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.

b.   Effectively communicate with supervisor/lead person, customer service, other drivers and customers.

c.   Work safely and maintaining consistent quality of work at efficient productivity rates to achieve production schedule for customer requirements.

d.   Maintains housekeeping and 5-S standards and supports/applies Lean Mfg tools to improve daily activities.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 4:00 AM to 12:45 PM and Friday 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1.      Education And/Or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least one to three years related experience and/or training. Must possess and maintain Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and pass DOT physical.

2.      Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1.      Valid Class A CDL with history of safe and consistent driving record.

2.      Forklift Safe Operation Certificate is required through internal training and certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit while driving forklifts and delivery vehicles climb and/or balance into and out of trucks and trailers.  The employee is frequently required to stand/walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; bend, perform low level activity, push/pull up to 100# force and grip up to 40# force. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 100# (floor to 36”) and lift up to 25# (floor to 65”).

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles both inside warehouse and on construction sites. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
