Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:   Assist the Team Leader and other senior staff and volunteers in carrying out development programs of the national setting of the United Church of Christ; primary responsibility for planning, executing, managing a comprehensive annual giving program, performing comprehensive analysis related to all aspects of the annual giving program; primary responsibility for planning and executing special events to engage donors, prospects and constituents of the UCC, promoting the programs of the national office and encouraging philanthropic support for the annual giving campaigns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate in institution-wide fundraising and strategic development initiatives, supporting and assisting the growth of philanthropic efforts.
  • Use statistics to evaluate the annual giving program and make recommendations to meet annual fundraising goals, increase annual giving revenue and participation.

  • Plan, execute, manage a comprehensive annual giving program.

  • Plan, execute, and manage a comprehensive plan for strengthening the campaign for Our Churches Wider Mission.

  • Execute an integrated and collaborative plan to build the base of individual donors and increase the level of support through annual giving. 

  • Develop and supervise a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies including social media, web, email, phone, personal visitation and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support, increasing annual giving.

  • Interface with UCC program areas and committees to recruit and train volunteer leadership to support annual giving.

  • Work with Major Giving to identify annual giving donors ready to move through the next phase of the giving cycle, developing them as major giving prospects.

  • Oversee the coordination and organization of any special events that support the philanthropic endeavors of the UCC including annual giving, principal giving, and other special fundraising efforts.

  • Work with appropriate Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship team members to segment the donor base for targeted appeals.

  • Work in conjunction with other UCC offices to coordinate annual giving with special offerings and other fundraising initiatives, ensuring the implementation of a carefully orchestrated cycle of requests that are sensitized to the needs and preferences of donors and prospects.

  • Work independently and with the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship team to test and devise the best strategies to maximize fundraising streams.

  • Work closely with the Team Leader of the Office of Philanthropy to develop operating plans, implement metrics and tracking reports for annual giving.

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteer leaders to help solicit and support existing and prospective donors to active campaigns and appeals.

  • Oversee, coordinate and provide follow-up to focused engagement events and other special events.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • A college degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.

  • Experience in the philosophy and practice of philanthropy in the non-profit sector and demonstrated ability to work in the area of annual giving programs.

  • Demonstrated credibility necessary to influence and tactfully manage relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to develop and execute complex strategy impacting philanthropic effectiveness.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and relate to a variety of diverse stakeholders.

  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission, stewardship and philanthropy.

  • Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.   

  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.

  • Ability to maintain and properly handle confidential or sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge.

  • Limited travel within the United States.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in annual giving/special events.

  • Demonstrated experience resulting in incremental and sustained growth in annual giving programs.
