GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:   The CASA Coordinator leads efforts to ensure that every UCC congregation and leader is well-equipped to make bold decisions that address the challenges and opportunities facing congregations in the 21st Century.  This person works as a bridge or triage specialist, in partnership with other ministries, to ensure service to congregations toward the best fulfillment of their missions and ministries.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Serve as point person in promotion and administration of the New Beginnings assessment program for/with congregations, in close collaboration with Conferences and the Hope Partnership of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
     
  • Work to broaden and deepen the commitment of UCC congregations and leaders toward a culture of assessment within congregational life.

 

  • Network congregations to stimulate conversation and understanding of what it means to be faithful, effective and experimental ministries for the 21st Century. 
     
  • Identify congregations, Conferences and ministries that are leaders in developing new ways of being and doing church.  Create opportunities for spotlighting these new models.
     
  • Supervise and manage an administrative assistant and any consultants, setting goals that will lead to measureable outcomes, services and products for congregations.
     
  • Serve as an agent of triage for congregations in need of assistance. Know all relevant congregational ministries in Local Church Ministries, or Conferences/Associations, or other national/ecumenical ministries or consultants, where answers and support can be found.
     
  • Maintain list of on-hand resources, in partnership with other ministries, on various topics related to day-to-day local church administration (budget preparation, staff supervision, committee structures, policies and procedures, etc.)
     
  • Facilitate a broad-range of constituency networks (new congregations/leaders, renewing congregations/pastors, inter-cultural and multi-ethnic ministries) in the United Church of Christ, using new models and techniques for creating and expanding these relationships.
     
  • Maintain and strengthen the collaborative relationship with the Center for Progressive Renewal to increase the capacity for church planting, renewal and transformation in the UCC.
     
  • Maintain strong ties of relational support with New and Renewing Congregations in the United Church of Christ.
     
  • Serve as UCC liaison to the Wild Goose festival and other Church 3.0 movements and initiatives.
     
  • Administer funding mechanisms (application process, allocation of funds, crowdsourcing website) for New and Renewing Congregations, identifying marks of effective new and renewing churches, in partnership with the Office of Philanthropy and Stewardship (Grants and Scholarship) and UCC Financial Services.
     
  • Participate with Center for Progressive Renewal and Conferences in the development and support of inter-cultural, multiethnic new and renewing congregations.
     
  • Increase collaboration with ecumenical congregational support ministries, particularly the Ecumenical Partners in Outreach.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A graduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.

 

  • Proven commitment to innovative approaches to church assessment and vitality; and their successful implementation in local churches.
     
  • Experience, gifts, and skills in, and passion for church planting, vitality, renewal and transformation.
     
  • Significant leadership experience and involvement in vital local churches.
     
  • Collaborative style and approach to ministry.
     
  • Demonstrated competency in management and supervision, planning and goal-setting, budgeting, and staff development and training.
     
  • Proven experience in effectively working and communicating with those who work and volunteer in church assessment, vitality and renewal in local churches and conference settings.
     
  • Familiarity with UCC/ecumenical/interfaith resources for assessment, vitality and renewal.

 

  • Excellent technology, and communication skills, and an understanding/articulation of both effective and emerging approaches to being church in the 21st Century.
     
  • Excellent writing, liturgical, interpretive, and preaching skills.
     
  • A person of faith with grounding in the United Church of Christ and its core values.
     
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language skills, including ability to conceptualize and participate in development of print resources.

 

  • Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one’s faith perspective.

 

  • Desire and sensitivity to working in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently and confidentially.

 

  • Ability to travel within the United States.
