Job Summary

The Academy Film Archive offers a small number of school-year internships to current full or part-time students enrolled in archiving, film studies, library and information studies, moving image studies, or other conservation-related programs. Internships at the Archive are project-based and interns can expect to gain experience in the everyday workings of a film archive, be introduced to our cataloging and collection management systems, and develop skills in how to properly handle and inspect film and video material. The internships will take place in the upcoming winter and spring quarters, with students generally working at the Academy's Pickford Center in Hollywood two full days a week for ten weeks (about 120 to 140 hours total).  Students may pursue school credit if the internship meets school’s requirements.

 Responsibilities

  • Creating lists of uninventoried collections.
  • Collection research via our in-house database and outside sources.
  • Performing video quality control.
  • Writing descriptions of film/video content.
  • Inspection, inventory, and cataloging of archival materials.
  • General support for department activities related to records management and preservation.
 
Position Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate accredited program.
  • 3.0 grade point average or higher.
  • Minimum of one year of study toward a degree in a related field.
  • Exhibit an interest in the film industry, specifically in moving image conservation and preservation.
  • Strong writing, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with computers, preferably MS Office Suite and Windows.
