Job Title:  Paraprofessional

Employment Status: Part-Time

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, and receiving general guidance and direction, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to: assist in the implementation and organization of a 21st Century Community Learning Centers program; provide instruction and educational activities to students; and perform a variety of non-routine tasks with limited decision making responsibility.  Some judgment is required to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to apply to more complex situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists site leader in the design and delivery of 21st Century Community Learning Centers or United Way for Southeastern Michigan site’s daily operations.

  • Communicates program objectives and protocols to staff and students.

  • Assist in maintaining program and student data.

  • Plan, organize and participate in student and parent events that highlight the activities of the program including family night events.

  • In collaboration with the site leader, communicates with parents regarding performance.

  • May work directly with students to implement program curriculum.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Mastery of subject matter in Kindergarten through 10th grade math and reading.

  • Intermediate knowledge of organizational

Skill in:

  • Organization and time management

  • Design and delivery of lessons targeted to young learners.

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, and Excel).

Ability to:

  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade students to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage a classroom of young students.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Speak and write in English. Ability to interpret, speak and write in Arabic a plus.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

Minimum Degree Required:

  • Associate’s Degree (at least 60 credit hours from an accredited university/college)
  • Required Disciplines:
  • Education or a relate field
  • GPA of at least 3.0 and a strong knowledge of specified academic subject or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

    ~and~

  • At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

  • Applicants who advance throughthe interview process will be required to complete a basic math and language arts assessment and score 70% or higher to be considered for employment.

Working Conditions:

Hours:   After school hours but may vary based on assigned school.  Some additional hours may be required.

Travel Required: none

Working Environment: Climate controlled environment.
