Special Collections Assistant 

Description

The Special Collections Assistant supports the processing activities of the Special Collections department at the Margaret Herrick Library.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare box and folder lists for new accessions and legacy collections
• Assist with the movement and location control of archival collections related to processing
• Prepare collections for final processing by archivists and processing staff
• Print and affix box and folder labels to archival collections
• Facilitate ordering and restocking of archival supplies
• Handle other departmental tasks and assist with ongoing projects as assigned

 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies or a related field or experience working in a library or archive
  • Knowledge of and interest in film history
  • Understanding of archival principles and an ability to carefully handle fragile documents
  • Organized and orderly work habits; accuracy and attention to detail a must
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs and retrieve materials from high shelving using a ladder or step stool
