Description

ACCOUNTABILITY: Broad responsibilities of the OHS Coordinator include implementing and maintaining the occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) and promoting a healthy and safe work environment for all Natpro employees, contractors, and visitors across all Natpro operations.

 

CORE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • OH&S Management System: Develop, implement and maintain the corporate OHSMS to applicable standards providing daily support to all internal departments.
    • Coordinates the implementation of environmental, health, safety and security programs along with related processes, procedures and resources.
    • Participates in field inspections, job observations; health, safety and environment audits and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to health, safety and environment requirements and identifying risks.  Provides findings about risks and suggestions for improvement.
  • Mentorship:  Provide ongoing advice to stakeholders regarding OHS actions required to ensure appropriate level of OHS at the facilities.  Foster an accountability process ensuring all levels of the organization assume ownership for OHS.
  • Internal Responsibility System:  Ensure all employees are aware of, and exercise their OHS obligations.
    • Liaise with and participate in DXP Canada OHS initiatives impacting Natpro operations.
    • Facilitate incident investigation process through successful resolution.
    • Compile and maintain accurate OHS performance statistics and prepare and deliver OHS reports as directed.
    • Participate as ex-officio member of Health and Safety Committee.
  • External Responsibility System:  Liaise with provincial OHS representatives as directed, and work with Certifying Partner and industry associations to continually improve Natpro OHS performance.
    • Manage provincial Workers’ Compensation compliance (reporting and claims management) and RTW programs providing ongoing follow up to Natpro and impacted personnel.
    • Liaise with other DXP Canada OHS resources to ensure consistency of OHSMS implementation.
  • Strategic Planning:  Develop, implement and maintain measurable action plans from audit, investigation and inspection reports.
  • Knowledge and Skill:  Maintain technical proficiency through professional development and participation in DXP Canada sponsored OHS initiatives.  Stay aware of all appropriate jurisdictional OHS requirements.
  • Contractor and Client OHS Management:  Provide direction for OHS performance of contractors and administer the various client mandated OHS qualification and performance management systems (e.g., ISNetworld, PICS, etc.)
  • Partnerships Program:  Maintain compliance with the requirements of the Partnerships program, including conducting internal audits as required.
  • Coordinate OH&S Elements of the Training Program Process: Participate in training provided or deliver training as required by the Corporate Training Program (CTP)
 
Position Requirements

REQUIREMENTS, ACCREDITATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION: Please note: Individuals in this role who do not meet these requirements should have equivalent work experience or be prepared to undertake training and education as required.

  • Two to five years demonstrated experience as an OH&S practitioner in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with lift planning and rigging.
  • Superior and effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Bilingual French/English preferred
  • Above average computer skills, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Superior organizational skills - a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a busy team
  • OHS certificate or diploma.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation (or ability to obtain within three years)
  • AASP Internal Auditor status or equivalent.
  • CSSE recommended.
  • BCRSP recommended.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel within Canada up to 20% of the time.
  • As this position is identified as safety sensitive, employment will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment physical demands assessment and drug/alcohol assessments with satisfactory results.
