Description

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Public Programs to oversee a full slate of diverse public programming including events, screenings, seminars and lectures to illuminate the collaborative arts and sciences in the motion picture industry, past, present and future.

The position reports to the Managing Director of Preservation and Foundation Programs. 
 
Responsibilities:
• Oversee all aspects of public program presentation, from research and development through booking, promotion, ticketing, reception and show set-ups, talent relations, audience flow, and show format; ensure smooth coordination between theater operations, security and other Academy departments.
• Work closely with the marketing and publicity department to develop comprehensive promotional strategies and materials.
• Manage the department’s staff and budget to meet departmental and larger institutional goals; maintain accountability for program costs and revenues.
• Shape program offerings to achieve goals of member engagement, diversified participation and outreach, cross-disciplinary exchange, community building and audience appreciation.
• Contribute substantially to conversations about mission, goals, education, and other Academy initiatives; work across departments to build long- and short-term plans; promote an understanding of the Academy’s philosophy, goals, and activities locally and globally.

 
Position Requirements

• Management experience and demonstrated track record creating, developing, and implementing motion picture programming.
• Understanding of and appreciation for both the arts and sciences of filmmaking.
• Ability to collaboratively manage and assist staff in overseeing multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment; talent and experience in building consensus among departments of an organization.
• Ability to develop budgets, allocate resources, and ensure compliance with administrative and fiscal policies.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends
