Thorough knowledge of modern practices of fire prevention and fire protection techniques in emergency and life saving situations. Knowledge of State Fire Codes, national recognized standards, and Town Ordinances with respect to fire safety and fire prevention required in fire inspection assignments. Ability to express oneself clearly, concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports. Ability to perform simple clerical tasks. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, business persons, co-workers and the general public. Ability to interpret and enforce State and Municipal Fire Codes firmly, tactfully and impartially. Learn and apply departmental policies and procedures. Willingness to work irregular hours and perform callback work as required. Make effective oral presentations. Maintain accurate and clear records and prepare reports. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Certification as a Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector in accordance with Connecticut Statutes. Possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, Class II. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Certified by the State of Connecticut as a Fire Safety Code Inspector. Two years experience conducting Fire Code inspections. General knowledge of building construction and life safety concepts.
