SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for balance sheet general ledger reconciliations, the full cycle Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable and performing general accounting functions as needed by the Accounting department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with Accounting leadership during the monthly close to ensure a timely close and accurate financials;
  • Review and reconciles balance sheet general ledger accounts and maintains schedules for accounts;
  • Works with internal departments to ensure the proper coding of items to the general ledger through detail analysis and understanding of the transaction;
  • Prepares spreadsheet reports for review by Accounting leadership;
  • Creates adjusting journal entries for review by Accounting Leadership;
  • Ensure accounting records are maintained appropriately through various methods as defined;
  • Continuously review processes for efficiency and internal control strength;
  • Recommend and implement changes to financial/operational processes as needed;
  • Provides support to the Accounting department on special projects as needed.
 
Position Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum - Bachelor's Degree. Accounting or Finance degree preferred
  • 2-3 years job experience in public or private accounting
  • A very strong understanding of the general ledger accounts of a company, including knowledge of debits and credits, journal entries, and understanding of the financial statements
  • Have worked with an integrated ERP System required (i.e. Great Plains, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, SAP or equivalent)
  • Strong Excel skills (regularly uses VLOOKUP and/or PivotTable functions)

  • Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Exemplary customer service skills required.
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical and accounting principles.
  • Ability to apply principles of logic to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbols, such as formulas, graphs, etc.
  • Ability to problem-solve in an effective manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities for other Accounting team members.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The physical requirements for performing the essential functions of this position require the team member to be able to:

  • Sit, stand, kneel, walk and reach.
  • Be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Read a computer screen and written material.
  • Write, type and use phone system.
