Before and After Care Aide

Each year, the agency's continuum of care and its 300+ professional staff help thousands of youth and their families achieve resiliency, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We operate therapeutic group homes, a treatment foster care program, and family help center located in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Prince George County. We also service students in our nonpublic special education programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County. The Children's Guild also operates public charter schools located in Anne Arundel and Baltimore City and will open our first DC charter school in September, 2015. We operate a Before and After School Program to support academic achievement at our Baltimore Monarch School. Monarch Academy, Baltimore Campus is a Baltimore City Public Charter school, K-8 open since August 2010.  We are committed to creating a positive school culture where students understand the goal of life is to serve a cause larger than one’s self.  Our commitment to excellence and high student achievement is achieved through the implementation of Transformation Education (TranzEd) and an instructional plan using the components of Expeditionary Learning (EL).   


We are seeking dynamic, high energy before and  after school Teacher and Teacher Aide candidates who will continue our tradition of excellence. Hours include Monday – Friday, before  6:30 am- 8:00 am,  after  2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. We believe that qualified staff are the single most important factor in supporting students in our before and after school program. The rate of pay for Teachers Aide is $9 per hour and for Teacher is $12 per hour.



General Role Description:


The Beforecare staff will greet parents, take attendance, distribute snack, aide in clean up of snack/activities, offer a space for homework completion, offer a space for morning play/movement activities, and aide in student transition to breakfast/ school day.




At least 18 years old.


High school diploma or GED.


3 semester (45 clock hours) approved coursework relating to school age children and 400 hours working experience with school age children in approved setting  OR 15 clock hrs of approved and 600 hours of experience OR no coursework and 800 hours of experience.


9 clock hours of communication or 1 college course.




This position is directly supervised by the Director of Before and Aftercare and is evaluated by the Director and Chief Operating Officer.


Skills/ Responsibilies Are Met When:


  1. Instruction
    1. Takes morning attendance and turns in sheets weekly to supervisor.
    2. Aides students in homework completion and morning activities such as games, art, and movement.
    3. Helps transition students to breakfast and/or class.
  2. Teamwork
    1. Regular communication with team, accountability for one another, and sharing/ aiding in responsibilities.
    2. Model appropriate and professional behavior at all time.
    3. Supports, encourages, and helps team members to be successful through active listening and reflection.
    4. Positive, motivating, and flexible in order to promote a supportive work environment.
    5. Embraces a holistic delivery of services that includes team primacy model
    6. Identifies problems and provides appropriate solutions.
    7. Attends and participates in meetings.
    8. Maintains clean and organized environment; puts away materials before leaving.
    9. Hands out paperwork, information, and receipts to parents as needed; has parents sign daily sign out sheet and turns in each evening.
    10. Writes incident reports and informs supervisor ASAP; involves supervisor in major incidents that require immediate attention.


  1. Professional Development
    1. Participation and graduation from The Children’s Guild’s Pre-service training program.
    2. Participation in required trainings, workshops, agency activities, conferences, and other coursework outside the normal work day.
    3. Completes assignments, projects, and readings as provided by supervisor.
    4. Completes evaluation documentation and meets for scheduled evaluation with supervisor
    5. Meets MSDE yearly requirements for training and continuing education.
  2. Organization
    1. Maintains workspace by cleaning up, organizing, and respecting shared space.
    2. Maintains entry way so that it is clear of debris, water, obstacles etc... That may pose a fall risk.
  3. Expectations for Position
    1. Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Children’s Guild, this includes the culture card.
    2. Participation in special events, committees, and other activities as needed.
    3. Flexible and adaptable.
    4. Checks email daily for updates and information.
    5. Checks in and out with supervisor or log.
    6. Conduct is professional.
    7. Attendance is maintained, time off requests are submitted at least two weeks in advance for planned events, notifies supervisor of lateness or needed absences, and employee is on time regularly. Tentative Hours Are: 5 days a week, 2 hours a day 6-8am.
    8. Adheres to and understands The Children’s Guild handbook and MSDE’s rules, expectations, policies, and procedures.
    9. Willingly takes on other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.



Workplace Expectations:


Attendance: 5 days a week, 6am-8am
