What We Are Looking For:

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our Student Services team as an Academic Advisor.

This position serves as a student’s key point of contact, providing in-depth, quality service to students from the time they are first enrolled until they graduate. Academic Advisors spend a majority of the day speaking with students on the phone, and another part of the day corresponding with students through email. They also serve as a liaison between each student and all other teams within the University. The position is responsible for identifying at-risk students and successful students, and educating and motivating those students to increase their likelihood of progressing to graduation. Additionally, Academic Advisors are also responsible for a specific set of operating tasks, and is measured using key metrics including retention rates and task completion rates.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all tasks/responsibilities for student load set by Associate Director or Director of Student Services.
  • Performs daily operating tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director, Roadrunner System, Student Portfolio Report or other task delivery methods.
  • Monitors student degree plans and course schedules to ensure students are remaining in compliance with NCU policy
  • Monitors each assigned student’s academic progress, per Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines and requirements
  • Responds to all student inquiries within timeframes set by Associate Director/Director
  • Contribute to a positive and productive team atmosphere and working conditions
  • Attend all required team meetings and trainings, adjusting schedule as necessary
  • Deliver messages to students on behalf of university as needed, not limited to above mentioned tasks
  • Participates in ongoing department projects, or other special projects, as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • It is imperative that all Academic Advisors are well versed in all NCU policies, including policy updates
  • Knowledge of operating systems utilized by team members of NCU, including, but not limited to Internet Explorer and MS Office products.
  • Remain solution-focused in all interactions with students and NCU team members, keeping in mind all NCU policies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as computer, scanner, fax, copier and phone system
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to facilitate online communication using email and/or other technology-based communication media, including but not limited to: web chat, NCU internal message system(s), Skype, Spark, MS Outlook email
  • Ability to solve complex problems within framework of NCU policy
  • Ability to work well in teams, while contributing to positive and productive team atmosphere, working conditions, etc.
  • Ability to advocate for student without compromising integrity of University
  • Strong understanding of NCU mission, vision, values, goals and strategies
  • Strong ability to provide friendly student service on all calls and written correspondence regardless of message being delivered.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Education, Psychology, Student Services, Counseling or related field from a regionally accredited university is required, Master's degree preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in academic advising is preferred, student services or training and development in a collegial setting
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications
