Ramp Transport Driver

To drive tractor-trailer vehicle to designated locations and operate mechanized loading/unloading equipment.


Drives tractor-trailer to designated station, delivering loads.

Loads or unloads aircraft, containers or company vehicles.

Pre-inspects the loader, unloader, tug and tractor trailer.

Maintains daily log in conformance with DOT regulations.

Assists in the sort and load operation as required.

Ensures related ramp functions are performed in accordance with established FedEx policies and procedures.

Conforms to airport regulations established by local airport authorities.

Ensures dangerous goods are loaded securely, matched with proper paperwork,and paperwork is maintained according to DOT regulations.

Ensures placards on exterior of vehicle properly identify vehicle contents according to safety regulations.

Scans packages according to prescribed procedures, in accordance with established procedures.

Separates packages by service type and destination, in accordance with established procedures.

Performs Courier, Shuttle or Ramp duties, depending on operational requirements. Courier duties include answering questions of FedEx features of service and determining legality of packages including special requirements for dangerous goods and international shipments.

Position Requirements


High School diploma/G.E.D

6 months FedEx Express experience preferred.

Class A CDL learner's permit or Class A CDL required prior to submitting application for the RTD position.

Must be able to obtain proper licenses & endorsements within 30 days of training and placement into this job before being allowed to operate the vehicle without a Class A CDL licensed driver in the vehicle.

3 yrs of commercial driving preferred. 

Ability to drive manual transmission preferred.

Ability to operate mechanized loading/GSE.

Ability to lift 75 lbs.

Ability to maneuver packages of any weight >75 lbs with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person.

Customer contact and package handling experience preferred.

Good human relations and verbal communication skills. 

Neat appearance since customer contact is involved.

Must meet all other qualifications outlined in Section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations.

Requires medical exam in accordance with FMCSA or FAA regulations.

Subject to regulatory alcohol 7 drug testing which includes testing for marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, cocaine and opiates.

Effectively communicate verbally in a time sensitive manner in noisy operations environment. 


Fingerprinting may be required for positions that have access to the U.S. Mail and SIDA. In addition, employees applying to designated facilities requiring U.S. Postal Service clearance must have resided in the U.S. for at least 5 years prior to application date, unless the period for foreign residence was due to active duty in the U.S. uniformed military services; trailing spouse or dependent of someone working for the U.S. government (military or civilian); missionary; student attending school in a foreign country; Peace Corps participant; employee of a U.S. based employer/company or other extraordinary circumstances.  An individual who falls into one of the categories above may provide a letter of recommendation from his employer(s) and/or criminal history report, with translation from the country where he resided.  Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 seeking positions that handle or have access to the United States Postal Service (USPS) product must provide evidence of registration with the Selective Service or a Status Letter from Selective Service approving an exemption.  In addition, all applicants/employees must provide proof of citizenship or legal work status authorizing the individual to work in the United States.   If you are a non - U.S. citizen, you must  provide your Alien or Admission Number and/or Permanent Resident Card for USPS clearance to be granted.  If an applicant/employee cannot provide the above information, he/she will not be considered to work at a FedEx Express postal location.
