Job Title: Paraprofessional

Employment Status: Part-Time

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to provide instruction and educational activities to students in an after school setting.

Follows established lesson plans to conduct learning activities and receives general guidance and direction to perform a variety of non-routine tasks with limited decision making responsibility.

Some judgment is required to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to apply to more complex assignments. Student population is separated into age appropriate groupings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists lead teacher in the design and delivery of instructional lessons and activities including applying Michigan’s Grade Level Content Expectations into fun, creative and active lessons.
  • Assists with identifying and implementing different instructional methods to meet the student’s varying needs.
  • Communicates learning activities and objectives to students.
  • Maintain individual learning for students and track their progress.
  • Plan, organize and participate in student and parent events that highlight the activities of the program including family night events.
  • Communicates with parents regarding student learning, assignments and behavioral concerns as needed.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Intermediate knowledge of effective teaching skills for students ages K-12.
  • Mastery of subject matter in 4th through 10th grade math and reading.

Skill in:

  • Design and delivery of lessons targeted to young learners.

Ability to:

  • Incite enthusiasm and influence, motivate and persuade students to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage a classroom of young students.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Speak and write in English. Ability to interpret, speak and write in Arabic a plus.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Associate’s Degree (at least 60 credit hours from an accredited university/college)
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Education or a relate field

  • At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Working Conditions:

Hours:            After school hours. May vary based on assigned school level..  Some additional hours may be required.
