Behavior Health Data Entry/Billing

Support Clerk

Overview:

 

OVERVIEW: This position will assist and augment the efforts of the Lead Billing & Collections Specialist in all daily functions for the billing program. High emphasis is placed on coding, data entry into RPMS and all other billing modules that will result in completion and tracking of multiple and various types of billable claims to Medicaid, State Industrial, and Private Insurers of all types.  Our goal is to maximize 3rd party billing and reimbursement for both Electronic and on Paper billing.   This position will also assist in heavy, courteous phone contact with insurance companies and patients/clients as part of the collections process.

 

Work Location:          Lower Elwha Health Clinic

Supervised by:          Data/Billing Manager

Position Status:        Full Time, 40 Hrs. /wk.

Salary Level:              Level 10-11 Step A - F

Work Schedule:         Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Performs basic coding, data entry, and claims production for all types of billing entities for Behavioral Health (Chemical Dependency and Mental Health)
  • Entry of all medical information from the medical patient encounter forms/Electronic Health Record for the purpose of billing all services
  • Input claims into ProviderOne by Direct Data Entry (DDE), and all others via tribal clinic electronic or paper claims submissions
  • Enters data into the DBHR Target Data System for Chemical Dependency transactions
  • Provides support for the Behavioral Lead Biller
  • Daily retrieval and use of billing and coding information from patient records as needed
  • Demonstrate and develop proficiencies in the use of Behavior Health and Medical Terminology
  • Work with Data Entry Specialist on accuracy and quality control
  • Assist in developing reports as needed
  • Engage in paperwork completion as needed for completion of applications, forms, and delivery of documents
  • Provide explanations of insurance benefits and regulations to patients
  • Compliance with confidentiality policies
  • Organize and maintain an efficient filing system
  • Other duties as assigned to support revenue recovery

 

 

 
Position Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 2-3 years’ work experience in a medical/Behavior Health office environment with excellent customer service skills

  • Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets

  • Ability to operate computers, faxes, telephones and photocopy machines

  • Ability to work as a team memberwith other office personnel

  • Ability to maintain and respect strict confidentiality

  • Ability to maintain friendly and courteous manner in all patient and staff encounters

  • Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instruction

 

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS)
  • Experience with a Tribal Clinic/Community

  • Beginning understanding of medical/behavior health terminology
  • Knowledge of DBHR Target Reporting and State/County Reporting
  • Know how to process cross over and secondary billing claims to secondary revenue sources

  • Familiar with rejected claims, and know how to research and proceed with collections activities
  • Communication skills with patients and staff regarding billing and collection issues

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires standing, sitting, stooping and bending intermittently

  • Requires ability to lift up to 25 lbs. infrequently

  • Requires ability to see /understand colors, alpha and numerical characters, and have visual acuity

  • Requires ability to hear and understand verbal instructions

  • Requires use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, faxes, and photocopiers

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a medical office environment

  • Involves interpersonal contact with staff, patients and agency
