GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Supported Living the Supported Living Supervisor I is responsible for ensuring that all individuals served are in integrated, dignified and respectful environments and receive necessary supports in order to be active in their chosen environments and communities.  These supports to the individuals will be provided with dignity and respect according to their personal preferences and in accordance with The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, Inc.’s policies, procedures, mission and philosophy as well as those of the State of Maryland/Federal mandated laws, policies and regulations.

 

The Supported Living Supervisor I is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of his/her assigned houses within the Residential Services department, the supervision of the staff providing direct supports to the individuals within those houses and the coordination of all services and aspects of the individuals’ lives on their caseload.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Three years experience in the human services field.  Residential experience preferred. AA Degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience.  BA degree may be substituted for up to four years of experience.
  2. Strong supervision skills
  3. Excellent organizational skills
  4. Computer literate
  5. Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  6. Ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations without loss of efficiency and composure.
  7. Ability to analyze situations, develop creative solutions and act quickly and calmly in a crisis.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Access to reliable transportation
  2. Valid Driver’s license with no more than two points.
  3. Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds.
  4. May be required to participate in repetitive lifts and transfers.
  5. Some sitting with frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending and driving.
  6. Maintenance of current and valid CPR/First Aid certifications.
  7. Maintenance of current and valid CMT certification.
  8. Maintenance of all required training requirements under DDA guidelines and The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, Inc. policies.
  9. Flexibility of scheduling to meet agency and program needs.

  10. Completes, maintains and submits required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  11. Ensures individuals served live the life they want, the way they want as outlined in our philosophy.
  12. Develops a relationship with the individuals served that is respectful, based on mutual trust and that maintains professional boundaries.
  13. Takes responsibility for safety hazards in all areas including, but not limited to, programs, residences and vehicles.
  14. Ensures that the individual’s plan is carried out as outlined in the written plan, programs, schedules and other documentation.
  15. Provides advocacy for individuals served based on their personal choices.
  16. Ensures that each individual served becomes involved in their community utilizing staff and natural supports according to personal choices.
  17. Supports each individual served in taking care of their life needs, i.e. home, finances, proper nutrition, medication, socialization and recreational activities.
  18. Ensures all individuals served are living according to their rights and responsibilities and are free from abuse and neglect.
  19. Assures staff members are meeting agency, state and federal regulations for required in-service training and certifications.
  20. Works effectively and cooperatively with the Human Resources department to ensure agency personnel policies and procedures are followed and takes necessary disciplinary action to ensure staff members are held accountable to those policies.
  21. Works effectively and cooperatively with the Finance Department to ensure agency policies and procedures are followed related to petty cash, PUF’s and other financial responsibilities of the residential program.
  22. Provides monthly supervision and annual evaluation of direct support staff performance.
  23. Provides flexibility when needed to transfer to another program/residence or in providing direct support to individuals as necessary.
  24. Oversees operations within residential setting and ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  25. Provides mentoring for staff in all areas of service delivery, including but not limited to, communication, networking and supports.
  26. Interviews and provides recommendations for the hiring of new direct support staff.
  27. Schedules direct support staff to ensure adequate supports are maintained.
  28. Writes and implements the plan for all supports, to include, social, residential, vocational educational, etc.
  29. Coordinates all services and benefits the person is receiving and advocates internally and externally for the supports needed.
  30. Develops an active Circle of Support around the individual and maintains communication and positive working relationships with the people who are involved in the lives of people supported, including people associated and not associated with the agency, professionals, friends and family members
  31. Keeps current and accurate individual records, case files, record notes and medical records.
  32. Advocates and provides options for supports and services as needed and seeks out and develops community resources to meet the needs of assigned clients for activities and support services.
  33. Facilitates team meetings and family conferences to problem solve and develop plans of action as needed.
  34. Works as part of a team of supervisors to provide oversight to assigned caseloads.
  35. Shares on-call responsibility on a rotating basis with team members.
  36. Works a rotating schedule to ensure all assigned houses have resources available throughout the entire week.
  37. Other duties as assigned.
