OVERVIEW: The Restoration Intern will become a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribes (LEKT) Revegetation crew to support the goals of the Elwha River revegetation plan, mitigating impacts of the Glines Canyon and Elwha dams. The intern will be stationed primarily at the Matt Albright Native Plant Center (An Olympic National Park facility, partnering with LEKT), and contribute to other restoration-related field work as time and season allow.
In addition to working at the native plant center the intern will assist in native seed collection, planting and seeding of restoration sites, monitoring plant communities in the restoration sites (depending on season), and will have the option to assist fisheries and wildlife monitoring activities. The intern will work under the supervision of the LEKT Assistant Greenhouse Manager, and gain skills and experience:
• working in a greenhouse and nursery production facility
• collecting and processing seeds and plant materials for propagation
• conducting vegetation surveys and plot work for plant ecology studies
• identifying Pacific Northwest native plants
Interns are invited to attend lectures on restoration and wilderness topics (offered by Olympic National Part, a project partner), and participate in a discussion/study group focused on topics in restoration ecology.
