CLASS SUMMARY Position responsible for coordinating work schedules and gives work direction to the night custodial staff for the completion of cleaning the facility. Coordinates with facility scheduler on set-up and cancellations of evening activities, special events, and other facility usage. Provides janitorial services necessary to maintain the sanitation and physical cleanliness and appearance of the CSB facilities. DISTINGUISHING ELEMENTS OF THE CLASS: I. IMPACT: The incumbent is responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of various CSB facilities. The image and prestige of the CSB is directly affected by the work of this class. Inadequate or improper execution of duties will result in a poor image of the CSB, dissatisfied staff and tenants and unclean, unhealthy facilities. II. LATITUDE: Daily work responsibilities, occurring primarily after normal working hours, are performed independently. Decision making by the incumbent occurs daily. Major events are coordinated with the supervisor. III. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: Coordinates work schedules and gives work direction to the night custodial staff for the completion of cleaning the facility. IV. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily contact with agency staff, tenants and visitors is required. V. DIFFICULTY: Incumbent is responsible for the daily cleaning of complex, sophisticated buildings and residences. In the execution of daily work, incumbent is routinely faced with decisions that affect all occupants in the facility and have a direct impact on the cleanliness and maintainability of the facility. Work requires accuracy, attention to detail and compliance to strict time frames. Work frequently involves much physical labor. VI. COMMUNICATIONS: Excellent oral communication is required, as incumbent routinely communicates with agency staff, clients and tenants. VII. EQUIPMENT/FACILITIES RESPONSIBILITY: Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, operation and safety of all janitorial equipment and supplies. VIII. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a hazardous environment, in and around electrical, plumbing, and environmental equipment, using hazardous chemicals and other supplies. IX. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA'S): Good knowledge of janitorial procedures and practices for modern, high-rise buildings and for residential locations. Knowledge of agency purpose and activities. Good knowledge of janitorial equipment. Good skill in maintaining an inventory of janitorial supplies. Ability to interact effectively with agency employees and clients. X. LICENSURE: Valid VA driver’s license. XI. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CLASS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY): Provide janitorial services to various CSB facilities. May operate Agency’s Vehicle.
