EMT/Paramedic Part Time 12pm 8pm every other weekend

Job Summary: The Resident Response Coordinator (EMT/Paramedic) is responsible for monitoring the level of care and general wellness of John Knox Village residents by appropriately assessing or evaluating their health status, cognition, functional abilities, and triaging any urgent medical concerns as allowable under Florida licensure regulations.  This includes but is not limited to observation of the resident, basic first aid, documentation of the resident’s medical condition or occurrences, coordination of services, disaster preparedness, and emergency response as needed. The Resident Response Coordinator (EMT/Paramedic) also provides assistance with employee health.  

Core Competencies/Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review and enter data from new resident medical forms.  Provide feedback to Director of Clinical Services on key diagnoses, conditions, or past medical history that may be indicative of additional medical services. 
  • Evaluates residents’ status on admission and periodically as the need arises through Welcome Visit, Life Care Assessment Tool, and safety screens.  Record findings in electronic health record and report concerns through the Life Care Committee. 
  • Assist residents to complete emergency contact information, provide appropriate advanced directives, and ensure that physician contact is current.
  • Responds to resident occurrences immediately.  Provides basic first aid or activates emergency services and provides triage until emergency personnel arrive.  Assists with establishing post occurrence services such as meal delivery, physician follow up, or home health evaluation as needed. 
  • Provide timely follow up to all resident occurrences or hospitalizations documenting resident status and ensuring that resident is safe and able to maintain in their home environment. 
  • Participates in the Life Care Committee by reviewing and providing insight to resident occurrences or concerns.  Reviews requests for meal plan changes and alerts committee to concerns regarding life care placements. 
  • Develops and maintains disaster preparedness lists for independent living residents who may require assistance with evacuation, utilize medical devices that may be impacted by power failures, and those who are on oxygen. 
  • Makes progress reports to the physician in a timely manner and notify the physician or family member when there is a change in the resident’s condition or a deviation in plan of care. 
  • Tracks and trends resident occurrences for the purpose of identifying and preventing future risk. 
  • Assists in employee health and new hire support through providing first aid or triage of employee occurrences, administering vaccinations, drug screens, and TB screening. 

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains open communication regarding resident health and safety with the Director of Clinical Services
  •  Establish and promote a positive relationship with residents, staff, independent physician practitioners, and area hospitals
  • Conducts environmental rounds and identifies and reports environmental conditions that are issues or present a risk to staff or residents
  • Assists families in understanding John Knox Village’s policies and procedures
  • Takes on call rotations or after hours calls as needed.
  • Assists with clinical emergencies, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation as allowed by licensure or certification in compliance with Florida regulations
  • Provides direct care as needed
  • As directed, supports the community as a Resident Response Coordinator (EMT/Paramedic) during emergencies.
  • Completes educational requirements as determined by policy or state and federal regulation
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.

Working Conditions: 

  • Usually works indoors but may have to work outside during outside events and parties.
  • May have to get into awkward positions or work in cramped spaces.
  • May be exposed to loud noises or sounds that are distracting.
  • May be exposed to diseases or infections from contact with residents or other staff members.
  • Often exposed to contaminants.
  • May sometimes need to wear safety gear such as gloves and or masks.
  • May have to handle hazardous waste in accordance with infections control procedures.
  • Scheduled hours may vary based on facility needs.

Educational, Physical, and Other Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate clinical assessment skills at the level necessary to meet the job requirements.
  • Must be a licensed EMT/Paramedic in good standing in the state of Florida.
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations, Physical requirements may include frequent use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee may be required to lift, stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell.  Vision abilities may require close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • For the safety and security of our residents and employees must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English, which is the most universally used language of our residents and employee population. 
  • Must be capable of maintaining  regular attendance
  • Must meet all local health regulations and post offer physical exam.
  • Current CPR certification

  • Must maintain a professional, respectful, friendly demeanor with all residents, family members, guests, and staff at all times.
