Communications Specialist 

Description

Savvee Consulting is seeking to hire a Communications Specialist to provide program support to our National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) client, located in Silver Spring, MD, and be able to come onsite as needed. Candidates must be experienced communications consultants, understand how to display a uniform style across various platforms, and ideally familiar with 508 compliance. To excel in this role, one must also be an excellent and confident communicator.  

 

Essential Functions

  • Developing intuitive web-based intake processes for department use, ensuring efficient user interaction and accurate data collection
  • Incorporating illustrations, infographics, and other visual aids to enhance the clarity and user experience of customer requests and related web content
  • Developing NOAA-wide communications via web, email, or other mediums as needed related to NOAA’s IT Service Delivery Division’s (SDD) procedural changes, department updates, and internal initiatives 
  • Developing and disseminating materials to educate employees and stakeholders on NOAA-wide IT information 
  • Collaborating with NOAA’s Digital Engagement and Transformation Program to craft strategic messaging for both internal and external audiences
  • Designing, reviewing, and organizing content for websites, announcements, and social media, ensuring all materials are engaging, informative, and accessible (508 compliant)
  • Providing development and strategic planning of online communications procedures, policies, and guidance to guide data-driven decisions in alignment with organizational goals
  • Helping with communication strategies for change management, ensuring staff is aware of and understands new processes or structural changes
  • Assisting continuous improvement initiatives by tracking and analyzing web metrics, utilizing data insights to optimize user experience and enhance site functionality
  • Designing, developing, and managing comprehensive communication plans for SDD, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and effective outreach across platforms
  • Understanding the organizational policies and procedures for accuracy of solutions and deliverables to the client
  • Demonstrating a commitment to quality and customer support
 
Position Requirements

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

Minimum Experience & Skills

  • Eight years or more of professional experience
  • A self-starter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

 

Desired But Not Required Qualifications

  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, and Java Script
  • Experience with design software
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards and 508 compliance requirements,
  • Experience in change management
