Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITIONProvide leadership and coordination of Leadership Development programs and initiatives within the covenanted ministries, linking those programs and initiatives with Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity commitments and practices of the United Church of Christ.  To facilitate collaboration among national and Conference staff associates to advance diversity initiatives for national settings of the UCC, conferences, associations, local churches, and key constituencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - see newly added responsibility in bold below.

- Develop and maintain a network of the existing leadership development programs in the national and Conference settings of the United Church of Christ.

- Maintain and strengthen institutional relationships between the UCC and its related colleges, universities and seminaries.

-To identify emerging leadership development needs within the United Church of Christ and to develop long and short term strategies to address those emerging needs.

-To facilitate coordination among existing leadership development programs in order to maximize their impact and visibility throughout the United Church of Christ.

-Collaborate with others to develop and implement leadership development initiatives specifically among youth and young adults, women and racial/ethnic constituencies.

-Work in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources to develop, implement and monitor Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity programs and policies for the Covenanted Ministries of the United Church of Christ.

-Work cooperatively with appropriate national staff toward developing an intercultural ethos and a spirit of inclusivity in the various settings of the church.

-Conduct and analyze surveys of staff and volunteers throughout the church to determine compliance with AA/EEO policy.

-Serve as a consultant to the Covenanted Ministries, Conferences and other parts of the church on AA/EEO policies and procedures including providing assistance in the hiring of staff  where appropriate, offering model policies and procedures when requested, and AA/EEO orientation for new employees and search committees.

-Develop and maintain networks of contacts within the church to assist the Covenanted Ministries in identifying pools of applicants for positions of employment.

-Maintain relationship with regulatory agencies to keep informed about the status of and changes in legal requirements related to AA/EEO and report any changes to the church.

-Conceptualize and prepare material to interpret program objectives.

-Promote the program's positive public image by responding in writing and orally on a timely basis to inquiries for information, accepting speaking engagements, and serving as a   resource.

-Contribute to the effectiveness of work teams by fostering a spirit of cooperation and accomplishing assigned tasks.

-Other responsibilities as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

-Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as in areas of divinity, sociology,   diversity management or leadership development.

-Ministerial Authorization preferred, United Church of Christ or the Christian Church (Disciples   of Christ).

-A working knowledge of Affirmative Action /EEO policies.

-Demonstrated experience in leadership development in a church or not for profit organizational setting.

-Member of a local church of the United Church of Christ.

-Commitment to and theological understanding of mission in its broad range of concerns; ability to articulate and witness to one's faith perspective.

-Understanding of the polity and structures of the United Church of Christ.

-Understanding of and commitment to diversity from a biblical/theological perspective.

-Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with a commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one's understanding of mission.

-Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially as well as independently.

-Demonstrated written and oral English language skills, including ability to conceptualize and   develop print resources; public speaking skills and knowledge of a second language when   applicable.

-Demonstrated administrative skills.

-Competency in leadership planning, development and training.

-Ability to travel within the United States.

-Computer literate in word processing.
