All non-clinical staff are encouraged, when appropriate.

The Enhanced extern - therapy program is a new initiative at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Enhanced extern - therapy will be immersed in our hospital setting, as part of an interdisciplinary team in the capacity as unregulated health care providers. They will learn how our regulated staff work and will collaborate with our interprofessional care teams in the provision of daily care. Ultimately, this exciting program will provide the enhanced extern - therapy with the platform to develop important clinical skills while increasing their knowledge of our hospital community. While enhanced extern - therapy are Holland Bloorview employees, they cannot replace therapy staff or be redeployed. Enhanced externs – therapy will work in collaboration with regulated health care professionals in their assigned clinical area. Enhanced externs – therapy’s background and training will vary. Enhanced externs – therapy must have the knowledge, skill and judgement to ensure safe and appropriate delivery of care. Enhanced externs – therapy practices under direct and/or indirect supervision of the regulated health care professionals assigned to them and enhanced externs – therapy are not permitted to perform any controlled acts. The regulated health care professional should assess competency and provide guidance when assigning tasks to Enhanced externs – therapy. The successful candidates will be required to work on the inpatient units. Enhanced externs – therapy will be hired on contract, during which they will work part time hours to a maximum of full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on program needs and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts.
