GSI Environmental has an immediate opening for a Senior / Principal-level hydrogeologist in California. GSI excels at seamless collaboration by offering expert environmental and water resources services of cross-disciplinary teams of professionals, including engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, toxicologists, chemists, oceanographers, and data analysts. GSI currently operates offices in Austin and Houston, TX, Irvine and Emeryville, CA, Olympia, WA, and Syracuse, NY with projects nationwide and internationally. Key opportunities include:

  • Joining a growing employee-owned environmental and water resources consulting firm with a foundation of technical excellence and strong industry reputation.

  • Providing leadership in advancing state-of-the-art science in water resources; and,
  • Collaborate with world class experts in the areas of groundwater modeling, surface water modeling, and data sciences to solve challenging water resources problems and grow a dynamic water resources practice in the Western United States.

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a practice area that is complementary to GSI’s existing technical service offerings. Preferred disciplines include (but are not limited to) engineering, hydrogeology, and water resources, especially with experience in modeling quantitative analysis. The candidate will be responsible for the professional, technical, and administrative activities of the company; developing long-range plans; providing effective leadership; business development; developing and recommending corporate objectives, goals, and budgets; negotiating critical and controversial issues with officers of other organizations and companies; taking responsibility for a large segment of the company in their area of specialization; directly supervising technical staff; and playing a major role in maintaining staff utilization.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leadership and business development with the following qualifications preferred:

  • Advanced degree in geosciences, engineering, hydrology, or related field.
  • At least 15 years of work experience with heavy emphasis on water resources consulting with some experience in environmental consulting a plus.
  • Professional licensure, such as Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG),
  • Experience with developing basin-scale hydrogeologic conceptual models, groundwater modeling or quantitative analysis (e.g., developing water budgets, aquifer test analysis, etc.), geochemistry, surface water/groundwater interactions, conjunctive use, managed aquifer recharge, and water banking.
  • Litigation experience as a consulting and/or testifying expert.
  • Experience serving as a primary point of contact with clients and managing project teams and budgets.
  • Experience developing work plans, managing large field programs, conducting data analysis and visualization, and preparing technical reports.
  • Ability to perform independent research and analysis.
  • Ability to work across geographies with experts in different offices.
  • Strong mentoring, professional development of staff, and recruiting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal water regulations is preferred.

Salary range for this position: $140,000/yr - $185,000 + /yr. Exact compensation may vary based on qualifications and experience.
