Your Role: 

As the Manager of Institutional Giving, you will play a meaningful role in advancing Strathmore's mission and values by securing philanthropic support from corporate, foundation, and government entities.  

Working closely with senior leadership to strategize institutional fundraising opportunities, you will have ownership of the entire grant lifecycle from prospect research to proposal writing to stewardship. 

Reporting to and partnering closely with the Vice President of Advancement, you will have a front-facing role in cultivating relationships with current and prospective funders while spending time behind the scenes creating dynamic and detailed written materials and managing overall grant administration.   

With an emphasis on storytelling, you will assist in developing an annual plan to engage local, state, and national elected officials to ensure their knowledge of and connection to Strathmore.  

Strategic Thinker and Storyteller  

Lead the fundraising efforts for corporate, foundation, and government donors and prospects. 

Execute letters of inquiry, proposals/applications, grants, reports, sponsorship agreements, acknowledgement letters, work samples, and periodic updates on activities to secure renewals and new funding. 

Create quantitative and qualitative reports about programs and projects. 

Identify and cultivate new funding sources through prospect research and working with volunteer leadership. 

Plan institutional giving budget and update forecast throughout the year. 

Manage Strathmore profiles on major nonprofit websites (e.g., GuideStar, Charity Navigator); work with colleagues to provide relevant information to maintain high-level status.  

Organizer and Collaborator  

Maintain institutional giving calendar, ensuring pertinent information is collected promptly and deadlines are met. 

Update Tessitura records (CRM) and maintain digital and paper files for institutional donors and prospects. 

Work with program staff to gather information for applications and reports and to fulfil requirements.  

Partner with the Database Administrator & Analyst to collect, track, and analyze organizational data, including attendance figures, numbers and types of programs, and constituent demographics. 

Navigate financial management software and collaborate with relevant colleagues to create budget materials for applications and reports.  

Collaborate with program and marketing teams to develop and design corporate sponsorship opportunities. 

Partner with the Donor Engagement Manager to fulfill benefits and execute stewardship opportunities for institutional funders, including print/web recognition, event tickets/reservations, and reception planning.  

Relationship Builder and Connector 

Cultivate relationships with institutional donors/prospects for general operating and special project support, including managing all correspondence and meeting grant requirements. 

Serve as host to share Strathmore’s impact with donors at performances, exhibitions, advancement functions, and the Comcast Circles Lounge. 

In partnership with Communications team, serve as liaison with local business groups (e.g., chambers of commerce, rotary clubs, regional county services).  

Represent Strathmore and participate in arts advocacy efforts at the local and state level; prepare advance materials and follow up correspondence for advocacy events (e.g., Maryland Arts Day). 

Support major organization-wide events and participate in all-staff programs.

Experienced in analyzing budgets and utilizing them to support a compelling message/story. 

Organized with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects and timelines to stay on top of deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

Agile in your work style being both a collaborative team player with the confidence to work with a high degree of autonomy.  

Able to perform with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity with the ability to safeguard confidential information. 

Passionate about the arts and arts education. 

Your success entails: 

Helping the institution reach its contributed revenue goals through institutional grant applications that result in funding. 

Making good and timely decisions based on a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment. 

Providing regular, clear, and compelling communication with institutional donors and prospects to develop and maintain strong relationships.  

Managing multiple grant applications and reports through completion with accuracy and effectiveness.  

Providing, monitoring, and adjusting ambitious yet realistic annual revenue projections to help Strathmore meet its fundraising goals. 

Prioritizing and translating strategies into step-by-step plans for action and monitoring and recording progress. 

Keeping excellent records.  

Displaying a high degree of dependability and reliability. 

Building and maintaining good working relationships with volunteers, donors, and colleagues. 

 
Position Requirements

You'll know if the Manager of Institutional Giving role is ideal for you if you have a: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum three (3) years of development/fundraising experience; time focused on institutional giving preferred. 
  • Strong alignment with Strathmore’s mission and a deep commitment to contributing to a diverse and inclusive working and learning environment.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and some experience working in a CRM/Fundraising database; Tessitura experience is a plus. 
  • Desire to grow, learn, and contribute to a team. 
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend performances and events. 
  • Familiarity with Montgomery County and Maryland is a plus.  

 

Our competitive compensation package includes: 

  • Salary Range:$60,000 to $70,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position.
