Your role in helping us shape the future:

U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. In this position you will have the opportunity to leverage your strengths and skills to prepare financial reports to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities and other related financial activities. You will be primarily responsible for assisting with month end and quarter end close duties, completing ad hoc financial close projects, and working with various employees across many departments to maintain accurate financial records.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Prepare journal entries, analyses, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, credit card entry and reconciliations, and assist with monthly close processes.

  • Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.

  • Contribute to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.

  • Maintain documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury.

  • Perform monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Respond to information requests, review financial statements, and assist with audits.

  • Work collaboratively with other members of Finance to assist in preparing monthly financial packages and other management reports.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

  • Assist the Controller as needed.

 
Position Requirements

You should definitely have:

  • One to twelve months’ experience as an Accountant or similar position.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience

  • Good analytical and organizational skills

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principals

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs

  • Basic ability to read and manipulate financial reports.

 

It would be nice if you had:

  • Ability to do financial modeling and excel/google sheets

  • Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

  • In New York City, the anticipated base salary for this position is $50,000 to $70,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
