Job summary:

The Specialist, Core Collection Reference Files assists with the maintenance of the Production Files sub-collection. This position is responsible for various duties including processing collections, creating, and updating database records, preparing materials for digitization, assisting with tours, and performing public service. This is a part-time position in the Core Collection Reference Files Department of the Margaret Herrick Library and reports to the Supervisor, Production Files.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Sort, organize and process archival collections including advertising materials such as pressbooks, lobby cards, and promotional ephemera.
  • Create and update Production Files and Works database records.
  • Enter and update metadata for digitization projects.
  • Assist with curation, set-up, and presentation for departmental library tours.
  • Acquire and process digital press kits.
  • Process Academy Awards documents.
  • Clip online and hard copy publications.
  • Perform public reference service.
  • Additional department tasks and projects as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or related field.
  • A master's degree in library and information science or archival studies from an accredited program preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in an archive or library preferred.
  • Knowledge of film history, the film industry, and the ability to conduct extensive research.
  • Understanding of archival principles, digital preservation practices and current metadata standards.
  • Experience handling fragile materials.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems, content management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and a familiarity with Axiel Collections and Airtable.
  • Customer service and public speaking experience preferred.

  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, take direction and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Pleasant personality, able to work independently and collaborate closely with colleagues.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move and retrieve boxes up to 40 pounds from high shelving units.
  • Ability to work on a computer for long periods of time.

The expected base hourly rate for this role is $27.02. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
