About the Organization The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. Non-Paid, Service Hours

DATES: June 3-August 2, 2024 (Internships available for minimum of 3 weeks, or entire summer)

 

Primary Purpose:

The Houston SPCA is offering internships for college students with a passion for education and or animals during our annual summer Critter Camp from June 3 through August 2, 2024. We are seeking Interns who can commit to at least 3 weeks. Preference will be given to those who can commit to additional weeks.

This internship will provide you with:

  • A unique teaching environment with TEKS-approved lessons at a notable non-profit.
  • Opportunity to engage in a classroom setting with certified teachers with support from teen volunteers (Critter Crew) for 60+ students weekly.
  • Guide students through the world of animal welfare and inspire them how to be rescue heroes in their own communities.
  • Earn service hours for the assigned weeks (M-F) as well as a letter from a manager outlining your impact and accomplishments during the internship.

Interns will be under the guidance of the Camp Manager, a seasoned educator, and will also provide support for Camp Teachers. There is a limited number of internships available. Please email questions to Education@HoustonSPCA.org.

ABOUT CRITTER CAMP

Houston SPCA Critter Camp is a weekly day camp for 3rd-8th grade students from June 3-August 2. Each week is a different theme, and different grade level. In addition to TEKS-approved lessons, and guest speakers, there are games, crafts, and group interactions with pets in the Adoption Center. Critter Camp is hosted in the Carruth Education Center located on the Houston SPCA campus at 7007 Old Katy Road, Houston, Texas 77024, next to Memorial Park and I-10.
