The Impact You'll Have:
We are seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer with hands on project management, technical design, and modeling experience to join Alliant's transportation team in our Salt Lake City office. This position will afford the opportunity to manage roadway design projects, apply your technical design expertise, play a critical role in assembling our Salt Lake City office team, train and mentor design team members, pursue and secure future projects, and expand your professional network.
We are looking for someone with previous project and staff management responsibilities and a solid understanding of transportation engineering, specializing in interstate, highway, and interchange design. Experience with all facets of transportation project design, including roadway modeling, drainage, traffic and utility design is desired.
Responsibilities:
Team Management
- Lead a cohesive project design team that develops plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation projects
- Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments
- Prepares or reviews and approves project scopes, budgets, and schedules
- Manages projects of varying scope, complexity, and size
- Manages disciplines within large/mega projects
- Manages concurrent projects
Talent Recruitment and Development
- Recruits qualified staff at all skill and experience levels
- In consultation with our Human Resources team, recruit, hire, develop, and retain department staff within the office
- Supervising, coaching, and mentoring junior engineering staff
Client Relationships, Marketing, Pursuit Development
- Engage in marketing activities to grow your client network and to bring in new work
- Fosters partnerships and relationships with other consulting firms to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for projects
- Assists in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities
Project Management & Technical Leadership
- Utilize your design experience to develop and review typical sections, horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, roadway models and other features needed for a complete set of plans
- Assists upper level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor
- Establishes and/or reviews priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments
- Actively manage projects and perform project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management)
- Supervise, provide Quality Assurance or perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
- Works to develop technical strategies and procedures. Monitors and develops appropriate professional standards and integrates the plans and metrics for quality assurance through all phases of project delivery
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- P.E. License in Utah
- 15+ years of highway design experience
- Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and standards is required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Commitment to delivering high-quality work on schedule
- Skillful in presenting technical concepts to clients and the public in understandable terms
- Experience supervising, leading, teaching, and mentoring project staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications
- Strong technical knowledge of Bentley based civil engineering design platforms, including MicroStation, GEOPAK(V8I), OpenRoads Designer, and/or InRoads
- Previous Alternative Delivery experience is a plus
